This document provides an outline for a parenting course focused on parenting children in their first and second years. The first year course covers topics such as feeding, sleeping, and supporting healthy development. It aims to help mothers understand what to expect, address common concerns, and feel prepared for challenges. The second year course focuses on the child's continued development, communication skills, behavior management, and activities to support learning and play at this stage. The overall goal is to equip mothers with knowledge to successfully manage the parent-child relationship and feel confident in their parenting role.
Migration to a new country can cause significant stress for women. The document outlines 7 common stress factors for immigrant women in Canada: age, education, childcare, language barriers, isolation, income challenges, and difficulties adapting life skills to a new cultural context. It then describes a 7-step program to help empower immigrant women and reduce stress through self-assessment, counseling, goal-setting, training, peer support, self-marketing skills, and ongoing case management. The outcomes for 4 client case studies demonstrate how following the program helped them better integrate into Canadian society and find stability.
This document advertises a seminar called "The Complete Woman" about health, lifestyle, and stress management for women. It will cover total holistic health care including physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects. The four sessions will discuss a woman's perspective on health, exercises and fitness, preventive gynecological care, and healthy eating patterns for the family. The goal is to help women develop a new attitude towards health and empower them to care for their whole family's well-being.
The document discusses how gender expectations placed on women can negatively impact mental health, as traits considered feminine were historically also viewed as signs of mental illness. In the 1800s, women experiencing hysteria were thought to have a wandering womb, and the suggested treatment was rest. Betty Friedan's book The Feminine Mystique explored how societal pressures created a problem for women that had no name.
In 2015, at the NAFSA Region V conference, Jennifer Frankel (from International Student Insurance), Justin Osadjan (from Roosevelt University) and Colleen Seaton (from Northwestern University) presented on the topic of "Improving Mental Health Awareness Among International Students"
The document discusses the issue of violence and discrimination against women in India. It describes various forms of abuse women face, including physical, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse, often resulting from dowry demands. Statistics are provided showing lower levels of education and higher rates of maternal mortality among women. Several government programs and initiatives are outlined that aim to promote women's empowerment, such as supporting self-help groups, raising awareness of women's rights, and working towards the UN's Millennium Development Goals of reducing gender disparities. The overall message is that more efforts are needed to establish a society with true equality and empowerment for women.

This presentation was presented at the Pittsburgh Carnegie Library, Business and Technology Series event in December of 2013. This presentation discusses the problems associated with corporations, organizations, and other businesses in failing to bring awareness to the existence of mental health. This presentation also touches upon the inability of employees to seek mental health care without fearing loss of employment, loss of confidentiality, or stigma.
Most employees have legal or federal rights to protect their mental health information from employers, but there are exceptions to this rule. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996), which supposedly protects all mental and medical health information from being exposed, is briefly discussed.
The document discusses stress, its causes and effects on physical and mental health. It notes that stress levels remain high for Americans and are associated with issues like family, economy, health, work and money. Chronic stress can negatively impact the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, heart, and brain. Specifically, long-term stress can damage the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, increasing risks of anxiety, depression and cognitive issues. The document recommends cognitive behavioral therapies and relaxation techniques to manage stress, including relaxation response, mindfulness, meditation and correcting cognitive distortions.

This is a small non supported presentation I put together to help open the door on Mental Health issues with young people aimed at ages12-18. All information is taken from the NHS or other accredited sites. It is for awareness and not a medical tool, as I am no professional in this area. Any feed back is welcome and please bare in mind it is awareness based information only and I have kept it simple and straight forward for easy of those receiving the information. There is an additional handout with useful information and contact details
The document provides information on children's mental health, including:
- 1 in 10 children in the UK have a clinically diagnosed mental disorder, which has remained steady since 1999. Mental illness disproportionately affects children from low-income families or those in non-traditional family structures.
- Definitions of mental health focus on the ability to develop relationships, cope with stress, and live a productive life. Young people see family/friends, ability to talk to others, personal achievement, and self-esteem as important for mental wellbeing.
- Around 20% of children experience a mental health problem, while 10% have a diagnosable disorder. Rates are higher in older children, some ethnic groups
- Women experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, and somatic symptoms than men. Certain life events that disproportionately affect women, such as gender-based violence and low socioeconomic status, are risk factors for these common mental disorders.
- Throughout a woman's life, hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause can impact mental health and susceptibility to mental illness. Conditions like premenstrual dysphoric disorder and postpartum depression are more prevalent in women.
- Women are also more likely to be affected by disorders like PTSD due to higher rates of sexual violence and trauma. While research on gender differences in mental health is growing, more work is still needed to improve identification and treatment
How much do you know about mental health? The Staff Health & Wellbeing team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust have compiled a quiz to help you improve your awareness of mental health.
Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health unique to New Zealand that consists of four dimensions: taha tinana (physical), taha hinengaro (mental and emotional), taha whānau (social), and taha wairua (spiritual). Participation in physical activity can positively influence all four dimensions by improving physical fitness, developing emotional control, fostering social connections and relationships, and enhancing personal identity, confidence, and appreciation for one's surroundings. However, neglecting any of the four dimensions can lead to negative consequences for overall well-being such as illness, isolation, poor mental health, and lack of purpose or motivation.
