Solar Thermal Electricity – tower technologyAbengoa
Abengoa is committed to Solar Thermal Electricity (STE) technology for its ability to generate clean energy which adapts to customer demand profile.
Tower technology operation is based on the concentration and capture of solar energy for later conversion into electricity through a thermodynamic cycle.
Abengoa counts on its own solar thermal technology and is a world leader in the construction of this type of plant. Solar thermal tower technology (STET) allows the production of electricity by concentrating solar power, captured by a field of heliostats, onto a receiver point located at the top of a tower.

The PV market has developed significantly in the last years, thanks to a complex combination of price decline, technology improvements and financial support schemes.
This webinar intends to bring additional information about the main trends in the PV market, industry and policy support in key countries and globally. It will highlight the reasons why PV has developed so fast and what can be expected in the coming years. In particular, the current support schemes and market drivers will be analyzed, together with the question of industry development. The geographical rebalancing between western and asian countries will be commented and explained. Finally the growing role of PV in the electricity sector will be explained.
Two presenters will share the floor : Izumi Kaizuka from RTS Corporation in Japan and Gaëtan Masson, Operating Agent of IEA-PVPS Task 1.

Bulk Solar Power Generation :CSP and CPV technologiesLeonardo ENERGY
Thin film, silicon, concentrated solar power (CSP), concentrated photovoltaics (CPV), ... These are just some of the terms demonstrating that solar technologies are rapidly entering the electricity system in countries such as the United States, Spain or Australia. Furthermore, the largest improvements, which will bring generation cost closer to competitive prices are just around the corner.
This webinar is dedicated to utility scale and baseload solar technologies: CSP and CPV.
What is the status of these technologies, their improvement potential and perspectives for the future? What are the running projects and expectations in terms of market development? How is the levelized energy price expected to evolve in the near future to reach grid parity? Additionally, more practical aspects will be presented, as the conditions required by a CSP project to be viable or the keys to successfully finance the project.
After this briefing presentation, a discussion with participants will be launched on questions such as storage capabilities and system operation. Other questions from attendees are welcome to guide the discussion.

Improving the viability of probiotics by encapsulation methods for developmen...Open Access Research Paper
The popularity of functional foods among scientists and common people has been increasing day by day. Awareness and modernization make the consumer think better regarding food and nutrition. Now a day’s individual knows very well about the relation between food consumption and disease prevalence. Humans have a diversity of microbes in the gut that together form the gut microflora. Probiotics are the health-promoting live microbial cells improve host health through gut and brain connection and fighting against harmful bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are the two bacterial genera which are considered to be probiotic. These good bacteria are facing challenges of viability. There are so many factors such as sensitivity to heat, pH, acidity, osmotic effect, mechanical shear, chemical components, freezing and storage time as well which affects the viability of probiotics in the dairy food matrix as well as in the gut. Multiple efforts have been done in the past and ongoing in present for these beneficial microbial population stability until their destination in the gut. One of a useful technique known as microencapsulation makes the probiotic effective in the diversified conditions and maintain these microbe’s community to the optimum level for achieving targeted benefits. Dairy products are found to be an ideal vehicle for probiotic incorporation. It has been seen that the encapsulated microbial cells show higher viability than the free cells in different processing and storage conditions as well as against bile salts in the gut. They make the food functional when incorporated, without affecting the product sensory characteristics.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

Marco Camerada, Valeria Demontis, Tiziana Melis, Maura Musio
Conferenza – “Solare termodinamico di piccola taglia in Sardegna“
Pula, 25 Settembre 2015
2. The “Concentrating Solar Power project”
► The demonstration plants aim at assessing in real operating conditions, the
feasibility, the performance and the reliability of small-scale concentrating
solar power (CSP) technologies (P<5MWe ) in the field of distributed generation
► The capability of small scale CSP with thermal energy storage to supply
programmable and dispatchable electricity and thermal energy at local level
will be investigated
Within the Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) project, funded by the Regional
Government of Sardinia in the framework of the operational programme ERDF
2007-2013, demonstration plants, based on CSP technology, will be designed and
built in Sardinia.
3. Projects Objectives
The main goals of the project are as follows:
investigating the feasibility, performance and reliability of small scale
CSP with thermal energy storage in integrating distributed generation
systems
improving the programmability and dispatchability of electricity
generation, through the integration of CSP plants with systems for thermal
energy and electricity storage.
assessing the integration of small-scale CSP technology with other
renewable energy systems
enhancing the know-how on control algorithms used to improve both
programmability and dispatchability of renewable energy generation, with
the aim of fostering the future development of smart grids
evaluating the opportunity to replicate project results in Sardinia as well
as in other Mediterranean areas.
4. Attractive features of the CSP Project
It can be easily adapted to the characteristics of Sardinian territory (and Italian in
general)
It is in line with the policy of the Regional Government of Sardinia to promote
distributed generation from RES to meet the local thermal and electrical demand
Interesting potential of economic benefit on the regional territory: supporting new
local industries devoted to CSP components and technology development
Possibility to use the small-scale CSP technology for applications in solar
heating and cooling for industrial processes, especially in the agri-food sector
The size identifies industrial demonstrators and not only pilot plants: will be
relevant to gain information about real plant performance and increase the
confidence in the technology by means of plants operation
Ideal conditions for smart microgrid and storage testing
Advantages of small-scale CSP technology:
Integration of CSP in microgrids for distributed energy generation
