San Juan de Sahagun was born in 1414 in Spain to a pious and well-to-do family. He was educated by Benedictines and ordained as a priest in 1445. He had several positions in the church but gave most of the proceeds from his positions to the poor. He later joined the Augustinian order and became known for his devotion to the Eucharist, sometimes experiencing visions during Mass. He was also a renowned spiritual director and preacher who helped improve social conditions through his sermons.
