St. Charbel Makhlouf was a Lebanese Maronite Catholic monk who is now recognized as a saint. He was born in 1828 and died on Christmas Eve in 1898 from an illness while celebrating mass. In 1925, Pope Pius XI proposed his beatification and canonization due to the soundness of his body when his grave was opened in 1950 and the multitude of healings attributed to his intercession. St. Charbel is now recognized for his holiness and miracles.
