Salesforce API access is nice, but often not enough. In the Big Data era, you are often required to replicate Salesforce data for offline processing. Implisit requires such replication for its data entry engine to automatically enter emails, events, contacts, and leads for its users. In order to do so, Implisit maintains a daily sync of over one billion Salesforce data records, while using no more than a few hundred API calls per Salesforce Org. Join us as we share the suggested architecture of such a replication mechanism, the best practices we developed over time, and the pitfalls to avoid.

Discover how to use the Salesforce API's and Java apps for loading data when there are more complex relationships involved. You can even build your own custom data loader (BYODL) For example, how do you add data to your Custom Object with a Master-Detail relationship with the Account Object, as well as multiple lookup relationships to other custom objects referenced only by ID's? Using the SOAP, REST, and Metadata API's with Apex and Java code, you will see example of how to solve many of the common data loading scenarios that Salesforce developers experience.
Have you ever wanted to schedule an Apex operation to repeat every 10 minutes? To have one future call start another one? Is the 10 future call per context limit getting you down? Recent additions to the Apex language have opened the door to entirely new asynchronous design patterns. Join us to learn about the recent language changes, how they are used, and the kinds of design patterns they enable.

APIs are one of the main elements of cloud services. All major cloud service providers expose REST APIs to allow you to programmatically access their services and capabilities. SOAP and REST are the two most common ways of exposing APIs, whether to external, partner, cloud, or internal developers.
The concept of API management is to publish these web APIs for consumption, and includes capabilities such as monitoring, security, and documentation.
This presentation introduces basic concepts of APIs, API management, cloud REST services, and a brief walkthrough of WSO2 API Manager and the Oracle API Gateway to see how you can centrally publish, expose, and secure APIs, essentially virtualizing your backend services.

2016 06 - design your api management strategy - axway - Api ManagementSmartWave
David Soulalioux, API Gateway pre-sales engineer at Axway illustrated, among others, a concrete use case of cloud API management at a worldwide energy industry leader. The presentation depicted the exposition of customer’s “Fuel Market” intranets website existing APIs to the outside world. This integration outlined the added value of the API Gateway as authentication layer, security and Quality Of Service (QoS) enforcement point. Also, the retained cloud infrastructure enabled for a scalable and reliable solution, allowing developers to focus on services instead of worrying about the infrastructure.
As soon as we start working on an API, architecture issues arise. Many mistaken common beliefs turn out to be fiction in this area. A poorly designed API architecture will lead to misuse or – even worse – not be used at all by its intended clients: application developers.
To facilitate and accelerate design and development of your APIs, we share our vision and beliefs with you in this Reference Card. They come from our direct experience on API projects.
Deep dive into Salesforce Connected AppDhanik Sahni
A connected app is a framework that enables an external application to integrate with Salesforce using APIs. Connected app uses standard protocols, such as SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect to authorize, authenticate, and provide single sign-on (SSO) for external apps.
POX to HATEOAS: Our Company's Journey Building a Hypermedia APILuke Stokes
We started FoxyCart.com in 2007 and soon after slapped together some XML and called it an API. As our customer base grew and third-party integrations emerged, the need for a true REST API became a priority. Beginning in 2012, we started researching best practices for modern API development. This talk will tell the story of that research and 10-months of development that followed. You'll get a look at the HAL hypermedia format along with some best practices we came up with for our problem domain of exposing our entire admin interface. We'll cover a lot. You may need a seat belt.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
