Sentiment Analysis Using Solr

Solr is an open source, widely used, popular IR machine. It can be used for simple sentiment analysis and sentiment retrieval tool. Its multi-language analyzers together with UIMA (Unstructured Information Management Architecture) framework can be extended for sentiment extraction. Each sentence passes through a series of pluggable annotators. Entity and its associated polarity are detected for each sentence. Polarity of each sentence is stored into Solr index. Persistent model files can be created from training data and accessed at run time.

I wasn't really in the market for another tablet, but my girlfriend ended
up getting one for me so she got me on this one. I would like to say that
this tablet reminds me of the first Motorola Droid smartphone that came
out several years back. The phone jam packed a ton of bells & whistles
into its hardware and software to give a lot of bang for your buck. This
is what it feels like amazon has done with the Kindle Fire 8.9. They have
put a lot of advanced hardware and innovative software, so for the
average user, specially someone who absorbs a lot of media, you get a
lot for the price. But just because you get a lot for the price, doesn't
mean it is without its flaws.

At Data Science Retreat we've taken a real-world dataset and worked through the stages of building a predictive model -- exploration, data cleaning, feature engineering, and model fitting; which would you use in production? Over the last two years, the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) has witnessed the emergence of transfer learning methods and architectures which significantly improved upon the state-of-the-art on pretty much every NLP tasks. The wide availability and ease of integration of these transfer learning models are strong indicators that these methods will become a common tool in the NLP landscape as well as a major research direction. In this talk, I'll present a quick overview of modern transfer learning methods in NLP and review examples and case studies on how these models can be integrated and adapted in downstream NLP tasks, focusing on open-source solutions. Bighead: Airbnb’s End-to-End Machine Learning Platform with Krishna Puttaswa...

Airbnb has a wide variety of ML problems ranging from models on traditional structured data to models built on unstructured data such as user reviews, messages and listing images. The ability to build, iterate on, and maintain healthy machine learning models is critical to Airbnb’s success. Many ML Platforms cover data collection, feature engineering, training, deploying, productionalization, and monitoring but few, if any, do all of the above seamlessly. Bighead aims to tie together various open source and in-house projects to remove incidental complexity from ML workflows. Bighead is built on Python and Spark and can be used in modular pieces as each ML problem presents unique challenges. Through standardization of the path to production, training environments and the methods for collecting and transforming data on Spark, each model is reproducible and iterable. This talk covers the architecture, the problems that each individual component and the overall system aims to solve, and a vision for the future of machine learning infrastructure. It’s widely adapted in Airbnb and we have variety of models running in production. We have seen the overall model development time go down from many months to days on Bighead. We plan to open source Bighead to allow the wider community to benefit from our work.

In this presentation, Ken will describe a portion of an early-phase project that uses social media data (tweets, Facebook posts, etc.) from service personnel to predict suicide rates. There's a lot of motivation to provide better data for military psychologies, since more military wind up taking their own lives than are killed in the line of duty. By analyzing social media data that is voluntarily provided by personnel, plus a predictive analytics system, we can provide assessments that help mental health workers focus their time and energy on the most at-risk individuals. This project uses Cassandra as the scalable storage system for this social media data, which is then analyzed in a distributed environment using Hadoop. The project also uses the Solr search support from DataStax Enterprise to provide ways for users to dig into the underlying data, which is critical when understanding the assigned risk levels.

He has over 15 years of experience in large scale distributed system design. Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.

This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second). Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management. The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
