• Started a community of sisters called the Sisters of

• First native-born American saint
• St. John Neumann

• Born in 1811 in Bohemia; dedicated his life to
missionary work
• Became the fourth bishop of Philadelphia in 1853
• John Neumann founded the
first Catholic school system
