9 simple steps to a secure vehicle!

• Seat belts can reduce your
health risks during an accident
by 50%.
• Ensure that your seat belts
are in proper condition.
• For maximum protection,
keep your seat backrest upright
with your seatbelt on.
Fasten the Seat Belt
Keep Head Restraints
• Head restraints are
extensions of the car seat that
limit the movement of your
head during impact.
• Ensure that the height of your
head rest corresponds with the
height and position of you head
for maximum protection.
Airbags, Brakes, Tyres
• Airbags protect your face and
torso from impact.
• Check your brakes regularly,
and remember that it is harder
to brake on loose soil and wet
roads.
• Regularly check your tyre
pressure and replace worn-out
tyres.
Dos and Don’ts - I
• NEVER drink and drive.
• If you are taking medications
for anything, check the labels
and ask your doctor to ensure
that they won’t make you
drowsy. If they do, avoid driving
after taking them.
• Avoid driving when you are
exhausted or sleepy.
Dos and Don’ts - II
• Avoid driving alone for long
journeys.
• On long drives, take regular
breaks, snacks and drink water
to keep yourself alert.
• Plan your route in advance to
avoid having to rush or get
stressed because of
traffic/lateness.
Dos and Don’ts - III
• Keep your eyes on the road. If
you want to change the CD,
read/answer a text message,
pull over first.
• NEVER drive while talking on
your mobile phone. Using a
Bluetooth headset might keep
your hands free, but your mind
will still be distracted, slowing
your reaction time.
Dos and Don’ts - IV
• Maintain a safe distance
between your vehicle and the
one in front of you to avoid
panic braking if the other car
should stop suddenly.
• Keeping some distance from
the vehicle in front of you may
also save your windshield from
being hit by small pebbles
caught in the other car’s tyres.
Driving Etiquette - I
• Before taking a turn, put on
your indicators well in advance
to give approaching vehicles a
chance to reduce their speed.
• Do not weave in and out of
traffic lanes.
• When driving at night, keep
your headlights low to avoid
blinding oncoming traffic.
Driving Etiquette - II
• Give right-of-way to
emergency vehicles.
• NEVER try to beat the yellow
light. A yellow light means to
“Slow Down.”
• Yield right-of-way at
intersections.
• ALWAYS obey speed limits.
