A Russian nobleman and several
select conspirators held a last
supper for Rasputin in which they
plied him with cakes and wine laced

refused to die, they nervously
overplayed their hand and shot him
with a revolver, then knifed him,
kicked him, clubbed him and,
finally, stuffed him through a hole in
the ice of the frozen River Neva.
Rasputin still refused to die!
Aronson writes, "But, incredibly,

one of his roped hands and that he
had actually died from drowning
(221)."

The Motherland Calls stands 279 feet tall and is located in Volgagrad. It was built in 1967 and commemorates the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. The statue is currently leaning due to groundwater level changes causing movement of the foundations; the leaning is rapidly getting worse. [1] The statue is not fixed to its foundations and is held in place only by its weight. It has moved by 20 centimetres and is not expected to be able to move much farther without collapsing. While local authorities deny that the statue is in danger, conservation and restoration works started in 2010
