This document describes an experiment to demonstrate how salt can cause ice to melt faster without using an external heat source. The experiment involves placing an ice cube in each of two bowls and sprinkling salt on one of the ice cubes. The ice cube with salt will melt faster due to salt lowering the freezing point of water, meaning the ice cube only needs to be cooled to below the new freezing point rather than 0 degrees Celsius to remain solid.
