7. China–Pakistan Economic Corridor ; also known by
the acronym CPEC) is an under-construction $54 billion economic
corridor in Pakistan, that aims to connect Gwadar Port in
southwestern Pakistan with Xinjiang in far-western China.
Infrastructure projects are worth approximately $11 billion
 The project is a collection of various infrastructure and energy
projects, and includes the establishment of special economic
zones. On 13 November 2016, CPEC became partly operational
when Chinese cargo was transported overland to Gwadar Port for
onward maritime shipment to Africa and West Asia.
The ambitious CPEC programmed has two main components. It
plans to develop a new trade and transport route from Kashgar in
China to the Gwadar Port. The other component envisages
developing special economic zones along the route, including
power projects.

and wants to become a part of the project.
o Russia, China and Pakistan on 28.DEC.2016 agreed to expand their
tripartite consultations on Afghan conflict and include other countries, including
Afghanistan, after Kabul objected to its absence from the regional discussions.
oThe CPEC passing through the regions of China and Pakistan bordering
many states could be extended to the countries Central Asia, Afghanistan and
West Asia and India.
oAFGHANISTAN has transit agreement; CPEC will provide them the
opportunity to transport their goods and market them more competitively to the
regional and global market fostering regional economic and trade connectivity.
oOnce the mega project has kick started, Afghanistan is losing the opportunity
to become a gateway to Central Asia. Is it a willful act or the war torn and
economically fragile Afghanistan is hostage in some hostile hands. The fact is
that Kabul is being exploited by the extra regional powers to undermine
CPEC.
oCPEC is considered a golden opportunity for Afghanistan to become a trade
hub between the Middle East, Persian Gulf towards Central Asia.

9. TRADE ROUTE
 The Grand Trunk Road is one of Asia's oldest and longest major roads
 Length:2,500 km
 East end: Chittagong, Bangladesh
 West end: Kabul, Afghanistan
 It runs from Chittagong, Bangladesh west to Howrah, West
Bengal in India, then across Northern India through Delhi, passing
from Amritsar to Lahore in Pakistan, farther up to Kabul in Afghanistan.

development of Afghanistan
and has built hospitals and
educational institutions.

projects reflects the sincere
endeavors made by Pakistan
for the rebuilding of Afghanistan
Apart from improving road
connectivity, China-Pak Economic
Corridor will also generate
economic opportunities as well as
play a vital role in economic
integration of the region and
countries like Iran and Central
Asian States will be able to benefit
from this project
It is high time that both sides
need to join hands to work
together for economic
development as well as make
determined efforts to overcome
the challenges of militancy,
terrorism and social and
economic impoverishment
being confronted by the two
countries.
