Robotic surgery uses robots to assist surgeons with performing operations. There are three main types of robotic surgery systems: supervisory-controlled systems where the robot follows pre-programmed instructions; telesurgical systems like the Da Vinci system which allow remote control of surgical arms; and shared-control systems where regions are defined to constrain the surgeon's movements. Robotic surgery provides benefits like improved precision, smaller incisions, and shorter recovery times compared to traditional open surgery.
