Employment History
Tesco Stores Limited May 2006 – Present
to include the following roles:
Head of Property Programme April 2014-Present
Accountable forthe management of the Programme Team in Tesco’s Property division I have lead
a successful team through a period of business transition including the formation and writing of
the largest refresh programme in Tesco’s history. I have been responsible for driving and enabling
the Development Programme for Property, ensuring that the vision, programme direction and
strategy are aligned to that of both Property & the wider business. I’ve taken a pragmatic and
structured approach to ensure the Programme achieves its financial and customer targets, making
sure that the team is using effectiveapproaches toprogramme management including planning
and tracking progress, delivering benefits and escalating risks or issues. I’ve developed and
improved our governance mechanisms to support the delivery of the programme. I have also
championed the Development Programme forProperty with the wider business and consulted
broadly to ensure a consistent approach across formats & programmes. I have workedclosely
with my Programme Director and team to deliver a successful programme often to tight
timescales. I’ve used my strong networksacross the organisation to remove barriers and mobilise
enthusiasm and commitment to deliver the programme and it’s KPIson time and have coached
and developed a high performing team. I’velead a cross functionalchange project toimprove the
way in whichwe deliver our programmes.
Property Programme Manager Dec 2012-Mar 2014
Within this role I focussed on broadening my development and started to coachthe programme
team. I wrotethe Property Long Term Plan, a significant piece of workthat went on to inform the
Property functions activity forthe following12-18 months. I was also involvedin the review of
the Property pipeline making recommendations towards whichnew stores should be developed
or disposed. I also represented Property within the wider business managing and reporting on the
Property “Better Stores” business plan. A large part of this role was to workclosely withthe
capital and sales finance managers to set and review budgets foreach programme area. I was also
involvedin leading a project where under-performing new stores performance was strategically
reviewed and business initiatives then delivered into store to improve sales. Strong performance
and senior sponsorship in this position enabled me to take up the Head of Programme role fora
period of maternity cover(described above).
New Space Programme Manager Aug 2011- Nov 2012
Developing into this role from my previous position I was responsible for Tesco’s New Space
Programme at its peak. I selected and agreed which stores would be built forthe 2012/13
development year. Whilst similar to the refresh role, this role enabled me to workwitha
completely new set of stakeholders and to become more involvedwith some of the programmes
larger scale development work, where in addition to building retail stores I managed the timelines
for non-foodretail units, residential and leisure developments.
2. Refresh Programme Manager Oct 2008 –July 2011
Within this role I was responsible forwriting the refresh programme forTesco stores. This
involvedselecting a balanced programme for both larger and smaller format stores that was in
line withthe broader business strategy. Toselect the programme I developed a model to rank
stores on a range of metrics such as age, condition, sales performance, competitor activity and
opportunity forincreased customer offers. After writing the programme, I then set and lead
milestones to deliver the programme and managed and forecast the position against these. I was
responsible for the phasing of the programme across the development year to not only deliver the
best sales return but also to be aware of internal and external resource factors. To communicate
the programme effectivity Ideveloped a detailed critical path which I am adept at both writing
and communicating. I was fully aware of risks & opportunities at a detailed scheme by scheme
level basis and brought teams together to put into place the action plans that I had written, for
example to accelerate the delivery of stores to mitigate sales risk. I produced high quality,
accurate, relevant and informative management information reports that allowed the Property
directors to make informed business decisions. In addition to the refresh programme(s) I also
lead a programme of workdelivering multiple retail services (for example Pharmacy & Phone
Shops) into stores.
Capital Validation Team Leader (Project Analyst) May 2006 – Sep 2008
This role involvedleading a small team that was responsible for the analysis of Tesco’s annual
development plan analysing cost/savings opportunities whilst monitoring, challenging and
commenting on buyer’s performance. I developed into this role and by gaining the respect of and
by building solid and professional relationships both with the many Corporate Purchasing buyers
and the wider Property community, to include the Programme Team, Supply Chain and Property
Finance. This role enabled me to become proficientin Excel, being able to use macros, complex
