Her writing journey began during her time in Portugal, where she found time to create the Harry Potter character while facing personal challenges. 4. Biography Rowling was born on 31 July 1965 in the small British town of Chipping Sodbury, England . Her parents are Peter James Rowling, an engineer of the Rolls-Royce company and Anne Rowling, a Scottish woman with French roots . When Rowling was four, after a brief stay in Yate, the family moved to Winterbourne (always without moving away from the suburbs of Bristol, environment in which there were forged the first memories of the imaginative girl). She attended St Michael's Primary School.

5. As a child, Rowling enjoyed writing fantasy stories, “certainly the first story I ever wrote down (when I was five or six) was about a rabbit called Rabbit” She said. At the age of nine, Rowling and her family moved to the Gloucestershire village of Tutshill, close to Chepstow. Here, Joanne attended Tutshill's Primary School. Later she left Tutshill to get in to secondary school Wyedean School and College, she was interested in idioms. Once graduated in Wyedean, Joanne enrolled in the University of Exeter, where following the paternal advice, she studied French with the intention of later find a job as a bilingual secretary.

6. With titles in French Language and Literature, she moved to the headquarters of Amnesty International in London. After this short training period she started working as a secretary, but soon she discovered that the order and the routine was not going with her. Several frustrating experiences in different companies, coupled with the demise of his mother, led her to leave everything at her 26 years old, and to leave the country with the intention of teaching english abroad.

7. In Lisboa she enjoyed teaching english to portuguese students, and there she had quite enough time to write; her real vocation. There she met and fell in love with Jorge Arantes, (a Portuguese television journalist) with whom she married in October 1992, and a year later had a daughter who called Jessica. Despite the happy event, the marriage did not prosper and soon ended in divorce. Mother of a little girl alone in a foreign country, in 1996, Joanne decided to return to United Kingdom and with the decision to set in the Scottish city of Edinburgh, near to her sister Dianne. She arrived with the intention to finish and publish a novel about a boy named Harry Potter, a child with magical powers, whose adventures had imagined quite a while back during an interminable train journey between Manchester and London.

8. The dogged French teacher spent many afternoons of his life writing « for herself » in a warm cafe next to a small apartment in which she lived with her daughter. Finally, the indefatigable novelist won a Scholarship from the Scottish Arts Council that enabled her to conclude, five years after it started, which at the time was the work of her life, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
