According to a WHO report, traffic accidents will account for 30% of all deaths globally by 2030. Every hour, 40 people under age 25 die in road accidents worldwide, making it the second leading cause of death for those aged 5 to 29. In India, the number of annual deaths from road accidents has risen to over 135,000, with trucks and two-wheelers responsible for over 40% of fatalities. The road accident rate in Assam is among the highest in India at 1.9 deaths per thousand people. Common causes of accidents include drivers' behavior, vehicle equipment failure, poor road design and maintenance.
