This document discusses road traffic accidents globally and proposes solutions. It reports that road traffic accidents (RTAs) cost $230 billion annually, cause 1.2 million deaths per year including 850,000 under age 45 in developing countries. Every day there are 3300 deaths and 6600 serious injuries from RTAs worldwide. The top three causes of collisions are equipment failure, roadway design, and human error. Solutions proposed include lowering speed limits, higher penalties for accidents, more challenging driving tests, and raising the minimum age for licenses. Case studies of accidents in the UAE, India, and Mumbai are also discussed.

dollars.

are under 45 years of age in developing countries and
are the sole bread-winners for their families.

50million people in the world.

4. Three factors contribute to the
vast majority of collisions. In
ascending order they are:
1. Equipment Failure
2. Roadway Design

5. Manufacturers are required by law to design
and engineer cars that meet a minimum safety
standard. Many companies have produced safe
vehicles that are easy and safe to drive. The
most cited types of equipment failure are loss
of brakes, tire blowouts or tread separation,
and steering/suspension failure.

6. Motorists may blame roadway
design for accidents, but it's rarely
the cause. Civil engineers, local
governments, and law
enforcement agencies all
contribute to the design of safe
road layouts and traffic
management systems.

12. 1. Lack of Maintenance
As with many other causes for train
accidents, human error does come
into play. Sometimes major accidents
happen that could have been
completely preventable.
2. Mechanical Failure
Many train accidents are
caused by mechanical failure. These
failures can include broken
warning lights or safety can prevent.

13. According to the Texas Department
of Transportation, a person is 40
times more likely to die in a
collision with a train than a collision
with another vehicle. In 2010, more
than 2,800 train wrecks and
rail-way collisions were reported. Of
the train wrecks, 157 occurred
in Texas—the most in any state.
