6. 5-AXIS MOTION SIMULATOR, AT NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER
Customers use this sort of motion platform for hardware-in-the-loop development and
Monte Carlo flight motion simulation of tactical missile seeker guidance. This particular
system relies on hydraulic actuators, resulting in high acceleration and dynamic response.

7. NOVERA OPTICS DYNAMIC GAIN EQUALIZATION PROCESSOR
As a startup, Novera Optics developed the first all-fiber, tunable optical filters. The DGEP
used multiple filters to normalize the spectrum of a long-haul fiber optic network.

9. PROJECTILE FOLLOWER, AT ABERDEEN PROVING GROUNDS
This system consists of a 300-by-500mm beryllium mirror, a pancake core motor, a digital
motion controller, and a bank of power amplifiers. The controller accelerates the mirror to
>800°/sec in under 15 milliseconds, then “tracks” one of several prescribed projectile motion
profiles based on measured muzzle velocity. High-speed, wide-aperture cameras record the
(reflected) projectile motion from muzzle exit to 200 meters down-range.
My Tasks Included: design, integrate, and test all motion control electronics and software.
