This document contains risk assessments for potential hazards in various rooms and outdoor areas at Priestley College where photography may take place. In the photography room, the main hazards identified are the hot studio lights and the backdrop on the back wall. Controls in place include light switches located away from hot parts and the backdrop being taped to the floor. In the gym, fitness equipment and dumbbells pose trip/collision hazards, but controls such as spacing of equipment help mitigate risks. Wires on the floor of the music room and the piano pose trip hazards, but controls like wire placement and piano location in the corner help. Outside trees and slippery surfaces when raining are hazards, but ample walking space and ability to reschedule help control

People might touch the lights in the
photography room when they are
hot and burn themselves. People
could also trip over them when
walking around to take the photos.
The model could trip over the
backdrop when getting into position
if it isn’t taped down the floor
properly. Also the photographer
could trip over it when they’re trying
to get the right angle.
The model and photographer
walking around the room might walk
into the table and stub their toe.
The light switch is on the back of
the light and away from where it
gets hot. The lights are also in the
corner of the room so they’re not
crossing any walking space.
The back drop in the photography
room is already taped down to the
floor.
The table is tucked away in the
corner of the room so it shouldn’t
get in the way of people walking
around.
Make sure the lights aren’t left on
for longer than they need to
prevent from them getting too hot.
Make sure the lights stay out of
the walking space.
Make sure the backdrop is still
taped down and none of it is
sticking up.
Make sure people in the room are
walking around sensibly and they
know the table is there.

The model or photographer walking
around the room could accidently
walk into or hit the equipment.
The dumbbells are hung up and if
they’re not put back carefully they
could fall and land on someone
that’s stood by them.
If people are working in the gym the
people that are involved with the
photography could get in the way
and there could be a collision.
Because there are glass doors and
windows people could fall in to the
window or a heavy piece of
equipment and smash the glass and
it could cut someone.
The equipment is well spaced out
and there is plenty of room to walk
around the equipment.
The dumbbells slot in to the stands
so they are not loose. They are
also more towards the wall so they
are out of the way of people
walking around.
The equipment is well spaced out
with plenty of walking space so
nobody should collide.
The glass is strong so it will be
hard to break.
Don’t take the pictures to close to
the equipment and make sure you
watch where you’re going.
Make sure you double check that
the dumbbells are put in properly
before taking a photo by them.
Make sure you aren’t in the way of
anybody when taking the photo.
Also make sure the gym isn’t too
crowded or else you and the
model will be in the way of people
trying to use the equipment.
Make sure if any of the models are
using the equipment that they are
stood far away from the window.

People walking around the room
might trip on the wire.
People walking around the room
might trip on the piano or they could
hit their hip on it when they are
walking passed.
The computer in the room could
have been left on and it could over
heat because the room is small and
it might cause a fire.
People in the music room might
have food or drink by the computer.
It could spill and damage the
computer.
The wires are tucked to the back of
the room so they are out of walking
a space.
The piano is in the corner of the
room so it should be in the way
and you should be able to walk
with plenty of space.
The computer should have a fan
inside to prevent it from over
heating
There is already a no eating rule in
rooms.
Make sure the wires stay towards
the walls and they aren’t sticking
out.
Make sure the piano hasn’t been
pulled out any further so that you
are unable to walk normally in
through the gaps in the room.
Make sure if nobody is using the
computer that you turn it off.
Because people can still drink
water in the rooms you should
make sure you keep the lid of the
bottle and keep it on the floor.

People walking around might
accidently walk into a tree if they
aren’t paying much attention to
where they are going.
If the weather is raining it could ruin
the atmosphere of the photograph
and the floor could become slippery.
People passing by might get silly
because they see a camera and
they could harass the people taking
the photo because they want theirs
taking and getting violent because
they’re not getting what they want.
The trees aren’t in the way of
walking and there is plenty of
space for numbers of people to
walk passed them safely.
The floor isn’t smooth so not many
accidents should happen. Also if
it’s raining there are other places to
take the photos.
People are usually sensible around
college and people are too busy
going to their next lesson or where
they need to be.
Make sure you don’t take the
photos too close to the tree as I
don’t need them in my photo.
You could also take the photos on
a different day if the atmosphere is
too gloomy.
Make sure if anyone starts
messing around you go and tell
someone or change the location.
