Shrimp farming is more profitable than paddy farming, but requires river water access. Farmers near rivers are likely to choose shrimp. However, leeching from shrimp farms can increase salinity in nearby paddy fields beyond what monsoon rains can rinse, making paddy farming less viable. A high percentage of shrimp farms in an area can thus create saline conditions that influence other farmers' decisions to also choose shrimp over paddy. The document investigates using the percentage of shrimp farms to understand these dynamics.

This webinar provides an in-depth introduction to the 2020 Texas Water Conservation Scorecard. The only effort of its kind in Texas, the Scorecard offers an extraordinarily detailed analysis of water conservation efforts at over 350 Texas water utilities. Jennifer Walker, Deputy Director of the Texas Coast and Water Program at the National Wildlife Federation leads the webinar, along with Ken Kramer, Water Resources Chair at the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra, and Meghan Bock, Senior Business Analyst at AIQUEOUS.
An initiative of the Texas Living Waters Project, the Scorecard evaluates each utility on a range of criteria including compliance with conservation planning and reporting requirements, its record on water loss and meeting targets for water use reduction, outdoor watering limits, and rate-based incentives for efficient use of water.
Taken in conjunction with the 2016 report, the 2020 Scorecard reveals many utilities are not taking serious actions to advance water conservation.
For more information on the Scorecard’s methodology, results, and recommendations, take a look at the Scorecard website at texaswaterconservationscorecard.org. The interactive site allows users to quickly identify individual utilities’ scores and analysis.

The export structure of Bangladesh looks like a ‘tadpole’- an early phase of a frog’s life cycle where a big upper part of the body is linked with a shallow middle part and a long tail in the lower part. A limited number of ‘dynamic’ export products at the upper part dominate Bangladesh’s export basket.

Export Potentiality of Pharmaceutical goods in BangladeshHr Shamim
The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most dynamic and powerful sectors in Bangladesh. It is technologically one of the most developed manufacturing industries and currently contributes about one percent to total GDP with great potential for expansion. Total domestic healthcare expenditures are currently approximately three percent of GDP, offering substantial opportunity for domestic pharmaceutical sales in addition to exports. The World Trade Organization's (WTO) Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) agreement permits Bangladesh to reverse-engineer patented generic pharmaceutical products to sell locally and export to markets around the world.
The presentation highlights the status of Bangladesh economy, its challenges and prospects in future. Current scenario of Bangladesh economy along with the investment perspective of the country has been highlighted in a well manner.

People as Agents. By Dr. Richard Taylor from SEI Oxford UK
1. People Model of Shrimp and Paddy Farming in
SW Bangladesh
Shrimp is more profitable than paddy
River water access necessary for shrimp
→ likely that farmers near river decide for shrimp
Leeching from shrimp area to paddy
Build-up may exceed monsoon saltrinse
High salinity detrimental to paddy health
→ high % of shrimp farms leads to overall saline condition,
influencing others to decide for shrimp
7. Feedback on models (Kenya)
Can be used to:
find out how to get more fish, e.g. moving to different areas,
stopping bad gears, and conflict
raise awareness, e.g. illustrating overfishing
help in BMU training activities
We would like to find out:
How we can improve it with data from our area
Starting a community project for better fishing data
Need for computer training and equipment
8. Summing up
Model relationships in shrimp and paddy farming
Testing a parameter (part of a policy scenario)
Environmental health and peoples' wellbeing
Prototype models shown during feedback meetings
Great deal of interest in agent-based models at different levels and
with types of decision-maker!
Editor's Notes
And biodiversity food production (subsistence) the;y decide so long as shrimp remains profitable and there is access to river reinforcement
