The Rock River Coalition's mission is to educate people and facilitate cooperation across different interests to improve the environmental, recreational, cultural, and economic resources of the Rock River Basin through programs like citizen water quality monitoring. The Coalition coordinates volunteer efforts to monitor stream and wetland health in order to assess current conditions and progress toward improving 62 bodies of water that are impaired by phosphorus and sediment pollution.

The UWP is a grassroots coalition of citizens, nonprofits, local and regional governments, and federal and state agencies dedicated to understanding, restoring and protecting land and natural resources within the Uncompahgre Watershed.

In their first year, they employed 4 crew members through Danbury Youth Services to work on projects like invasive species management and trail cleanups at the Still River Greenway. They also had 50 students from Danbury High School plant over 300 native plants at the Brookfield Greenway. Additionally, 16 students learned about watershed management and buffers while planting over 50 native trees and shrubs at Lake Kenosia Beach in Danbury.

The launch was designed by Upper Reach Program Director Scott Murray and built through collaboration between the Upper Reach Program and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve access to waterways for people of all abilities. This partnership has expanded recreation and education around the Roanoke River and resulted in additional launches being constructed.
Introduction: Groundwater aquifers
Over the last decade, demand for spring management has increased as traditional spring sources have started drying up or becoming contaminated. In response, communities, NGOs and state agencies began dedicated spring protection programmes. In the Himalayas, the State of Sikkim and organizations such as Central Himalayan Action and Research Group (CHIRAG) and People Science Institute (PSI) started identifying and protecting spring recharge areas around 2007. The difference between these programmes and many other previous efforts is that they went beyond supply-side improvements to focus on the use of hydrogeology to map springsheds for targeted interventions.
The Advanced Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM), a research and capacity-building organization comprised of hydrogeologists and other experts began lending their expertise and building capacity of stakeholders. ACWADAM provides technical support, training and materials in hydrogeology to all network partners as well as others in India and the region. Similar programmes began independently in most of the mountain regions of India. Arghyam, a funding organization that was supporting many of these programmes, noticed that these disparate initiatives shared commonalities despite geographic diversity. They thus organized and funded a meeting of these various organizations in June 2014, and the Springs Initiative was born.
The springs initiative aims to tackle the current water crisis and to ensure safe and sustainable access to water for all, by promoting responsible and appropriate management of aquifers, springsheds, and watersheds and conserving ecosystems in partnership with communities, governments and other stakeholders.
This presentation has been developed as a part of the springs initiative to promote an understanding of springs and their role in mountainous areas.
Yil me hu Spring 2017

USACE National Award of Excellance-Tailrace Launch
The Roanoke River Basin Association's Upper Reach Program has been selected as the recipient of the 2014 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers national Excellence in Partnership Award for their efforts in providing eco-tourism, recreational therapy, and environmental education through their universally accessible canoe and kayak launch project, which has created new recreational opportunities. The launch was designed by Upper Reach Program Director Scott Murray and built through collaboration between the Upper Reach Program and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve access to waterways for people of all abilities. This partnership has expanded recreation and education around the Roanoke River and resulted in additional launches being constructed.
Introduction: Groundwater aquifers
Over the last decade, demand for spring management has increased as traditional spring sources have started drying up or becoming contaminated. In response, communities, NGOs and state agencies began dedicated spring protection programmes. In the Himalayas, the State of Sikkim and organizations such as Central Himalayan Action and Research Group (CHIRAG) and People Science Institute (PSI) started identifying and protecting spring recharge areas around 2007. The difference between these programmes and many other previous efforts is that they went beyond supply-side improvements to focus on the use of hydrogeology to map springsheds for targeted interventions.
The Advanced Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM), a research and capacity-building organization comprised of hydrogeologists and other experts began lending their expertise and building capacity of stakeholders. ACWADAM provides technical support, training and materials in hydrogeology to all network partners as well as others in India and the region. Similar programmes began independently in most of the mountain regions of India. Arghyam, a funding organization that was supporting many of these programmes, noticed that these disparate initiatives shared commonalities despite geographic diversity. They thus organized and funded a meeting of these various organizations in June 2014, and the Springs Initiative was born.
The springs initiative aims to tackle the current water crisis and to ensure safe and sustainable access to water for all, by promoting responsible and appropriate management of aquifers, springsheds, and watersheds and conserving ecosystems in partnership with communities, governments and other stakeholders.
This presentation has been developed as a part of the springs initiative to promote an understanding of springs and their role in mountainous areas.
Yil me hu Spring 2017
This article discusses the important role that volunteers play in restoring habitat in the Nisqually Watershed. It notes that volunteers dedicate significant time and effort to activities like planting trees, removing invasive plants, monitoring fish and wildlife, and educating the community. Specifically, it highlights that over 700 adults and 2,200 students have contributed over 6,000 hours to restoration plantings in the Ohop Valley. Volunteers also conduct long-term water quality and salmon monitoring efforts. The article promotes upcoming volunteer opportunities in the watershed.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

- Great presentations – many opportunities of public engagement in creating a better picture of the natural world – now want to extend a special invite…RRC stream monitoring program…. RRC Stream Monitoring Program: (1) Initiated in 2003 (2) Part of state wide water quality monitoring program called – Water Action Volunteers. This program is coordinated through a partnership between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the University of Wisconsin – Cooperative Extension. The WAV program has established monitoring protocols that have been tested and provide detailed instructions to promote ease of use and accuracy of data. WAV program also provides the database which volunteers submit their data. (3) Also partner with local county land and water conservation specialist as well as local water resource organizations.
