 As medical director for the Center for
Regenerative Medicine in Miami, Dr. Alimorad
Farshchian helps people with joint problems,
particularly arthritis. While the majority of Dr.
Alimorad Farshchian’s patients are baby boomers
and older individuals, he also sees younger
people.
There are many reasons why young people might
have joint pain, and one of them is rheumatoid
arthritis. While normally considered a problem that
affects older individuals, some young adults also
develop the condition, though it is more likely to
occur in young women than in young men.

3. Rheumatoid Arthritis
 In addition to a person’s gender, there are a
number of other factors associated with an
individual developing rheumatoid arthritis at a
young age. In those who are already genetically
more likely to get rheumatoid arthritis, smoking
can increase their risk. Having family members
who also have the disease is another possible risk
factor.
Since rheumatoid arthritis is so often associated
only with older individuals, young people who
have the condition often feel that there is a stigma
attached to it. However, with medication and other
forms of treatment, managing rheumatoid arthritis
is possible.
