SIEM-based detection and mitigation of IoT-botnet DDoS attacksIJECEIAES
The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an integral part of our daily life includ- ing health, environment, homes, military, etc. The enormous growth of IoT in recent years has attracted hackers to take advantage of their computation and communication capabilities to perform different types of attacks. The major concern is that IoT devices have several vulnerabilities that can be easily exploited to form IoT botnets consisting of millions of IoT devices and posing significant threats to Internet security. In this context, DDoS attacks originating from IoT botnets is a major problem in today’s Internet that requires immediate attention. In this paper, we propose Security Information and Event Management-based IoT botnet DDoS attack detection and mitigation system. This system detects and blocks DDoS attack traffic from compromised IoT devices by monitoring specific packet types including TCP SYN, ICMP and DNS packets originating from these devices. We discuss a prototype implementation of the proposed system and we demonstrate that SIEM based solutions can be configured to accurately identify and block malicious traffic originating from compromised IoT devices.

The need for affordable, secure smarthome gateway device or router that smarthome user prefer. The problem of low-performance smarthome gateways was running security programs on top of smarthome gateway programs. This problem motivates the researcher designing a secure and efficient smarthome gateway using Raspberry Pi hardware as an affordable smarthome gateway device and able to run both smarthome gateways and security programs. In this research, researchers implemented snort as intrusion detection system (IDS), openHab as IoT gateway applications, and well-known encryption algorithms for file encryption in Raspberry PI 3B+ model. The researcher evaluated Snort capability on network attacks and compared each of the well-known encryption algorithm efficiency. From the result, we found Rasefiberry customized snort configuration for Raspberry pi 60 percent of the simulated network attacks. Twofish encryption algorithms were found to have best encryption time, throughput, and power consumption compared to other encryption algorithms in the research. Rasefiberry architecture successfully processes both lightweight security programs and Openhab smarthome gateway programs with a lowperformance computing device such as Raspberry Pi.

A survey on Internet of Things (IoT) security : Challenges and Current statusvivatechijri
When Internet of Things (IoT) applications become a part of people’s daily life, security issues in IoT have caught substantial attention in both academia and industry. Compared to traditional computing systems, IoT systems have more inherent vulnerabilities, and in the intervening time, could have higher security requirements. However, the current design of IoT does not successfully address the higher security requirements postured by those vulnerabilities. Many recent attacks on IoT systems have shown that novel security solutions are needed to defend this emerging system. This paper purposes to examine security challenges resulted from the special characteristics of the IoT systems and the new features of the IoT applications. This could help pave the road to better security solution design. Furthermore, three architectural security designs are suggested and analyzed. Examples of how to implement these designs are discussed. Finally, for each layer in IoT architecture, open issues are also identified.

IoT as a domain has grown so much in the last few years that it rivals that of the mobile network
environments in terms of data volumes as well as cybersecurity threats. The confidentiality and privacy of
data within IoT environments have become very important areas of security research within the last few
years. More and more security experts are interested in designing robust IDS systems to protect IoT
environments as a supplement to the more traditional security methods. Given that IoT devices are
resource-constrained and have a heterogeneous protocol stack, most traditional intrusion detection
approaches don’t work well within these schematic boundaries. This has led security researchers to
innovate at the intersection of Machine Learning and IDS to solve the shortcomings of non-learning based

Analysis of Honeypot Networks and Intrusion Prevention System IPS on Wireless...ijtsrd
Honeypot is a way to trap or ward off unauthorized use attempts in an information system. Honeypots are a distraction for hackers, so that it appears as if they have succeeded in breaking into and retrieving data from a network, even though in fact the data is not important and the location is already isolated. One type of honeypot is honeyd. Honeyd is a honeypot with a low interaction type which has less risk than the high interaction type because the interaction with the honeypot does not directly involve the actual system. Security issues are one of the important aspects of a network, especially network security on servers. This problem underlies the need to build a system that can detect threats from parties who do not have access rights hackers , namely by building a honeypot security system. Honeypot is. The aim of implementing Honeypot and IPS is that it can be used as a tool for administrators to view activity reports produced by Honeyd and administrators can also view reports stored in logs to help determine network security policies. In this paper, we emphasize the concept of Internet of Things IoT , in addition to reviewing the main challenges of the IoT environment by focusing on the recent research directions in this topic. With the increasing dependency of events over the smart objects which can be easily controlled and monitored, can be identified automatically and communicate with each other through internet and can make decisions by themselves, there is an urgent need of new paradigm which can connect these smart devices together and that new paradigm is Internet of Things. in fact, the IoT environment possesses a large range of challenges has a wide impact on their performance, which can be divided into two categories, that is i General challenges for example communication, heterogeneity, virtualization and security plus ii Unique challenges for example wireless sensor network WSN , Radio Frequency Identification RFID , and as a final point Quality of service QoS which is measured as a common factor between general and special challenges. This paper highlights the major applications of the IoT. More than a small number of sectors like security and emergency, meteorology, banking, agriculture, Surveillances, health care, education, government e services, domestic appliances monitoring, traffic surveillance are integrated and a variety of objects and devices are connected using RFID technology. INTRODUCTION
The Internet of things is the most significant of the future of the internet. IoT has a global network through which ant object can connect with the other devices that are also linked on the internet. These devices include computers, tabs, cell phones, among many others. Generally, the internet of things is a system made up of connected things. This machine contains a microchip that connects all the methods related to it. Microchips serve the function of tracking the surrounding of the network and to give the report in case of any findings pertaining to the internet. The meaning of PC wrongdoing and cloud wrongdoing will be come to out to the IoT wrongdoing, which talks to any malignant development that incorporates the IoT worldview as within the IoT contraptions, organizations, or correspondence channels can be a subject, thing, or gadget recognized with the infringement. To investigate these sorts of cases, it is required to execute computerized crime scene examination technique within the IoT to choose the substances around an event. The meaning of a capable and adjust IoT progressed lawful sciences method is still at its unimaginable intrigued (Husamuddin, 2015). The most significant part of IoT is that it makes it possible for different entities to be communicated and to be accessed via the internet. This is very economical as a result, attracts many devices to be connected to the internet (Balte &Patil,2015). Research shows that more than 40 billion devices in 2019 got connected, and a higher risk of this is expected in the current year.
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
The rate at which technologies are emerging is so high, and this has lead to threats as well as a privacy issue. The smart devices arising from this technology will interact with other devices and transmit information in the network (Balte, &Patil,2015). If a computer gets infected, the effects ripples to other devices in the system; thus, the whole internet infrastructure would be at risk. As soon as an attack spot has been identified, it is feasible to enumerate the safety vulnerabilities and risk prone regions requiring defense-in-intensity protection. Such safety refers to a typically used approach to protect important data on company networks wherein security controls ...

The Impact of Digital Media on the Decentralization of Power and the Erosion ...ijtsrd
The impact of digital media on the distribution of power and the weakening of traditional gatekeepers has gained considerable attention in recent years. The adoption of digital technologies and the internet has resulted in declining influence and power for traditional gatekeepers such as publishing houses and news organizations. Simultaneously, digital media has facilitated the emergence of new voices and players in the media industry. Digital medias impact on power decentralization and gatekeeper erosion is visible in several ways. One significant aspect is the democratization of information, which enables anyone with an internet connection to publish and share content globally, leading to citizen journalism and bypassing traditional gatekeepers. Another aspect is the disruption of conventional media industry business models, as traditional organizations struggle to adjust to the decrease in advertising revenue and the rise of digital platforms. Alternative business models, such as subscription models and crowdfunding, have become more prevalent, leading to the emergence of new players. Overall, the impact of digital media on the distribution of power and the weakening of traditional gatekeepers has brought about significant changes in the media landscape and the way information is shared. Further research is required to fully comprehend the implications of these changes and their impact on society. This study primarily focuses on the design of a high side buck converter using an Arduino microcontroller. The converter is specifically intended for use in DC DC applications, particularly in standalone solar PV systems where the PV output voltage exceeds the load or battery voltage. To evaluate the performance of the converter, simulation experiments are conducted using Proteus Software. These simulations provide insights into the input and output voltages, currents, powers, and efficiency under different state of charge SoC conditions of a 12V,70Ah rechargeable lead acid battery. Additionally, the hardware design of the converter is implemented, and practical data is collected through operation, monitoring, and recording. By comparing the simulation results with the practical results, the efficiency and performance of the designed converter are assessed. The findings indicate that while the buck converter is suitable for practical use in standalone PV systems, its efficiency is compromised due to a lower output current. Sustainable Energy by Paul A. Adekunte | Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Janet O. Sadikuijtsrd
Energy becomes sustainable if it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Some of the definitions of sustainable energy include the considerations of environmental aspects such as greenhouse gas emissions, social, and economic aspects such as energy poverty. Generally far more sustainable than fossil fuel are renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectric power, solar, and geothermal energy sources. Worthy of note is that some renewable energy projects, like the clearing of forests to produce biofuels, can cause severe environmental damage. The sustainability of nuclear power which is a low carbon source is highly debated because of concerns about radioactive waste, nuclear proliferation, and accidents. The switching from coal to natural gas has environmental benefits, including a lower climate impact, but could lead to delay in switching to more sustainable options. “Carbon capture and storage” can be built into power plants to remove the carbon dioxide CO2 emissions, but this technology is expensive and has rarely been implemented. Leading non renewable energy sources around the world is fossil fuels, coal, petroleum, and natural gas. Nuclear energy is usually considered another non renewable energy source, although nuclear energy itself is a renewable energy source, but the material used in nuclear power plants is not. The paper addresses the issue of sustainable energy, its attendant benefits to the future generation, and humanity in general. Paul A. Adekunte | Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Janet O. Concepts for Sudan Survey Act Implementations Executive Regulations and Stand...ijtsrd
This paper aims to outline the executive regulations, survey standards, and specifications required for the implementation of the Sudan Survey Act, and for regulating and organizing all surveying work activities in Sudan. The act has been discussed for more than 5 years. The Land Survey Act was initiated by the Sudan Survey Authority and all official legislations were headed by the Sudan Ministry of Justice till it was issued in 2022. The paper presents conceptual guidelines to be used for the Survey Act implementation and to regulate the survey work practice, standardizing the field surveys, processing, quality control, procedures, and the processes related to survey work carried out by the stakeholders and relevant authorities in Sudan. The conceptual guidelines are meant to improve the quality and harmonization of geospatial data and to aid decision making processes as well as geospatial information systems. The established comprehensive executive regulations will govern and regulate the implementation of the Sudan Survey Geomatics Act in all surveying and mapping practices undertaken by the Sudan Survey Authority SSA and state local survey departments for public or private sector organizations. The targeted standards and specifications include the reference frame, projection, coordinate systems, and the guidelines and specifications that must be followed in the field of survey work, processes, and mapping products. In the last few decades, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of geomatics activities and measurements on the Earths surface in space and time, together with observing and mapping the changes. In such cases, data must be captured promptly, standardized, and obtained with more accuracy and specified in much detail. The paper will also highlight the current situation in Sudan, the degree to which survey standards are used, the problems encountered, and the errors that arise from not using the standards and survey specifications. Towards the Implementation of the Sudan Interpolated Geoid Model Khartoum Sta...ijtsrd
The discussions between ellipsoid and geoid have invoked many researchers during the recent decades, especially during the GNSS technology era, which had witnessed a great deal of development but still geoid undulation requires more investigations. To figure out a solution for Sudans local geoid, this research has tried to intake the possibility of determining the geoid model by following two approaches, gravimetric and geometrical geoid model determination, by making use of GNSS leveling benchmarks at Khartoum state. The Benchmarks are well distributed in the study area, in which, the horizontal coordinates and the height above the ellipsoid have been observed by GNSS while orthometric heights were carried out using precise leveling. The Global Geopotential Model GGM represented in EGM2008 has been exploited to figure out the geoid undulation at the benchmarks in the study area. This is followed by a fitting process, that has been done to suit the geoid undulation data which has been computed using GNSS leveling data and geoid undulation inspired by the EGM2008. Two geoid surfaces were created after the fitting process to ensure that they are identical and both of them could be counted for getting the same geoid undulation with an acceptable accuracy. In this respect, statistical operation played an important role in ensuring the consistency and integrity of the model by applying cross validation techniques splitting the data into training and testing datasets for building the geoid model and testing its eligibility. The geometrical solution for geoid undulation computation has been utilized by applying straightforward equations that facilitate the calculation of the geoid undulation directly through applying statistical techniques for the GNSS leveling data of the study area to get the common equation parameters values that could be utilized to calculate geoid undulation of any position in the study area within the claimed accuracy. Both systems were checked and proved eligible to be used within the study area with acceptable accuracy which may contribute to solving the geoid undulation problem in the Khartoum area, and be further generalized to determine the geoid model over the entire country, and this could be considered in the future, for regional and continental geoid model. June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

3.1. SECURITY ISSUES IN IoT ARCHITECTURE:
Application layer
Middleware layer
Network layer
Perception layer
Figure1. IoT architecture for security issues
3.1.1. PERCEPTION LAYER:
This layer is a sensor network and RFID security policy and
it is the lowest layer where information canbepassed across
IoT network. The issues in sensor network are physical
capture of sensor nodes, integrity and congestion attacks,
eavesdropping and node replication networks. Theissues in
RFID networks are tampering attacks, leakage of
information. Issues of this layer are unauthorized access,
theft, wiretapping and replay attacks.
3.1.2. NETWORK LAYER:
This layer is also known as information transmission
security policy. This is used to transfer of information across
the network and it is implemented on communication
framework. Issues created by this layer are to maintain
authenticity, confidentiality, integrity, data availability.
3.1.3. MIDDLEWARE LAYER:
This layer is also known as information processing security
policy and is used to process information and provide
interface between network and application layer. Issues of
this layer are privacy, security and reliability.
3.1.4. APPLICATION LAYER:
This layer is also known as information application security
policy. Privacy is the major issue of this layer. The
unauthorized persons could collect the information by
hacking using this layer.
3.2. SECURITYISSUES INWIRELESSSENSORNETWORK
(WSN):
A WSN is a wireless network consisting of spatially
distributed autonomous devices using sensors to
cooperatively monitorphysicalorenvironmentalconditions,
such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or
pollutants, at different locations. A wireless sensor network
is an important element in IoT paradigm. Sensor nodes may
not have global ID because of the large amount of overhead
and large number of sensors. WSN basedonIoThasreceived
remarkable attention in many areas, such as military,
homeland security, healthcare, precision agriculture
monitoring, manufacturing, habitat monitoring, forest fire
and flood detection.
The oppressive operations that can be performed in a
wireless sensor network can be categorized under three
categories:
Attacks on secrecy and authentication.
Silent attacks on service integrity.
Attacks on network availability.
3.3. SECURITY ISSUES IN RADIO FREQUENCY
IDENTIFICATION (RFID):
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a system that
transmits the identity of an object orperson wirelesslyusing
radio waves in the form of a serial number. RFID technology
plays an important role in IoT for solving identification
issues of objects around us in a cost effective manner. RFID
used in information tags and they useradiofrequency waves
for interacting and exchange information without any
requirement for alignment in the same line of sight or
physical contact. This usesAutomaticIdentification andData
Capture (AIDC).
Active tag- This houses a battery internally, which
facilitates the interaction of its unique EPC with its
surrounding EPCs remotely from a limited distance.
Passive tag- The information relay of EPC occurs only
by activation by a transceiverfromapredefinedrangeof
the tag.
This is mainly used as RFID tags for automated exchange of
information without any manual involvement. The most
common attacks are
Attack on Authenticity- This attack render a RFID tag
to malfunction and misbehave under the scan of a tag
reader, its EPC giving misinformationagainsttheunique
numerical combination identity assigned to it.
Attack on Integrity- The capturing of the identification
information through the manipulation of the tags by
rogue readers.
Attack on Confidentiality- A tag can be traced through
rogue readers, which may result in givingupof sensitive
information.
Attack on Availability- The communicating signal
between the reader and the tag is intercepted, recorded
and replayed upon the receipt of any query from the
reader at a later time, thus faking the availability of the
tag.
3.4. SECURITY ISSUES IN PHYSICAL LAYER:
This layer performs the function of selection and generation
of carrier frequency, modulation and demodulation,
encryption and decryption, transmission and reception of
data. This layer is mainly attacked through
Jamming- This occupies the communication channel
between nodes thus preventing them from
communicating with each other.
Node tampering- Physical tampering of the node to
extract sensitive information.
3.5. SECURITY ISSUES IN DATA LINK LAYER:
This layer of WSN multiplexes the various data streams,
provides detection of data frame, MAC and error control.
This layer is mainly attacked through
Collision- Collision occurs when two nodes
simultaneously transmit packet of data on the same
channel.
Unfairness- Repeated collision based attack.
Battery Exhaustion- Thisoccurunusuallyhigh trafficin
a channel making its accessibility very limited to the
nodes.

3.6. SECURITY ISSUES IN NETWORK LAYER:
The function of this layer is routing. This layer is mainly
attacked through
Spoofing- This causes replaying and misdirection of
traffic.
Hello flood attack- This causes high traffic in channels
by congesting the channel with an unusually high
number of useless messages.
Homing- A Search is made in traffic for cluster heads
and key managers which has thecapabilitytoshutdown
the entire network.
Sybil- The attacker replicates a single node and
represent it with multiple identities to other nodes.
Wormhole- Relocation of bits of data from its original
position in the network.
3.7. SECURITY ISSUES IN TRANSPORT LAYER:
This layer provides reliability of data transmission and
avoids congestion resulting from high traffic in the routers.
This layer is mainly attacked through
Flooding- Refers to deliberate congestion channels
through relay of unnecessary messages and high traffic.
De-synchronization- Fake messages arecreatedatone
or both endpoints requesting retransmission for
correction of non-existent error.
3.8. SECURITY ISSUES IN APPLICATION LAYER:
This layer is responsible for traffic management. This also
acts as the provider of software for different applications
which carries out the translation of data into a
comprehensible form or helpsincollectionofinformation by
sending queries.
3.9. SECURITY CHALLENGES WITHIN IoT AND BIG
DATA:
IoT is main target of security attacks is whole
communication process is performed between IoT devices.
The components involved are IoT device itself and gateway.
If gateway is damaged then whole communication process
gets affected. Interferencecausedduetojammingof physical
channel between nodes. Signal interception caused due to
traffic flow, unauthenticated access, insecure network
resources. Intrusion occurs due to insecure user interfaces,
software. Exploitation occurs when attackers act as
authenticated users to access the data. Communication
process can be hijacked the sensors and devices for
communication by attackers. Gateway plays an important
role in communication. IoTcanreplacedamaged devices and
install new devices. Authentication and authorization canbe
achieved by end-to-end encryption.Endnodescanbehacked
by attackers. Biometric information can be used to
authenticate and authorize the communication.
4. CONCLUSION
This paper presents a survey on vulnerable issues in IoT
security. Tremendous changes occurs in business utilizing
big data by analyzing and targetingmarketingspecifications.
Business organizations should concentrate on security and
secure communications through IoT security techniques.
Security becomes very vulnerable in our current scenario
hence there is an need to secure our information by using
any of the Cryptographic and Stenographic security
measures in the information exchangeprocessand useof the
efficient methods for communication will result in more
secure and robust IoT information.
