REVERSE ENGINEERING THE HINGE ON GLASSES
              By Thomas Crowley
GLASSES HINGE
• I am going to explain how the hinge to a pair of glasses works.

• purpose of hinge is to allow the arms and ear pieces of frame to fold,
allowing it to be more compact
• The purpose of glasses to allow people see clearly (whether in sunlight
    or prescription)
POWER MODEL
Source 1st Action 2nd Action

Hand/Fingers Opens the hinge Close hinge

Spring Snaps hinge to full Snaps hinge to full
                   open position closed position
Human/Automated Human open/close Spring keeps that
                   the hinge way
HOW IT WORKS
• Temple of glasses open/close.

• Hinge snaps temple “closed” with small added force

• Hinge snaps temple “opened” with small added force
ASSEMBLED
UNASSEMBLED
ACTION
RESEARCH
• Internet

• Found out it’s a Spring-loaded hinge

• No additional info
HISTORY
• Idea from Assyrians, used clear crystal to magnify
    objects 700 B.C.

• Romans used glass jars with water

• Salvino D’Armate of Florence, Italy made first wearable
    glasses in 1284 A.D.
• Nicholas of Kues, Germany made the first near-sighted
    lenses in 1604

• Benjamin Franklin made Bi-focal glasses in 1784
CONCLUSIONS
• Hypothesis correct :D
