Supply Chain Network Design: Key Questions for a Successful Distribution NetworkHannah Flynn
As we plan for the world of eCommerce and the customer expectation of quick, free shipping, our ability to forecast is turned on its head. How many distribution centers do we even need, and is that number feasible? Can we use historical data to plan for demand and design our networks, or is there a better way?
If we're going to offer the speed of shipping and variety of inventory that today's customers have come to expect, there are a lot of different questions that need to be asked. Join Irina Rosca, Director of Supply Chain Operations at Helix and an experienced global supply chain strategist, as she walks through the key questions to a successful and efficient distribution network. You'll leave knowing what data you can start collecting today to answer these questions.

GreenBiz 16 Workshop Slides: "Closing the Loop to Advance a New Economy"GreenBiz Group
Slides for "Closing the Loop to Advance a New Economy". With the take-make-waste linear model no longer viable, companies are actively pursuing alternative models such as the circular economy, which has captured the imagination of the private sector as a viable approach for decoupling economic growth from resource constraints. The circular economy, an industrial model that is restorative or regenerative by design and intent, aims to keep products, components, and materials at their highest utility at all times, and represents an opportunity worth in excess of $1 trillion for the global economy. In this session, we will explore how companies can leverage circular economy principles and best practices to help eliminate waste throughout the value chain and improve the bottom line.

These problems are created by rampant urbanization and are amongst the most important challenges of our times. These problems represent greatest responsibilities for the emerging business models by positioning them to shape the sustainable economic landscape of the future.

18. • A circular economy could result in overall benefits of €1.8 trillion by 2030.
• By adopting circular economy principles, Europe can take advantage of the technology
revolution and increase average disposable income for EU households by €3,000, or 11%
higher than the current development path.
• This would further translate into an 11% GDP increase by 2030 versus today, compared with
4% in the current development path.
• The circular model would also benefit households in other ways. For example, compared to
the current development path, the cost of time lost to congestion would decrease by 16%
by 2030, and close to 60% by 2050.
• Carbon dioxide emissions would halve by 2030, relative to today’s levels (48% reduction of
carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 across the three basic needs studied, or 83% by 2050).
• Primary material consumption measured by car and construction materials, real estate land,
synthetic fertiliser, pesticides, agricultural water use, fuels, and non-renewable electricity could
drop 32% by 2030 and 53% by 2050, compared with today.
• 65 reviewed academic papers indicate that “existing studies point to the positive
employment effects occurring in the case that the circular economy is implemented”
