Work Experience
CIENA Communications, Inc.
May 2007 to January, 2016
Positions Held:
 Corporate Systems Engineer (4/09-1/16)
Duties: Provide company wide Sales Systems Engineering support for all global regions and customers
ranging from Tier 1 service providers to Cable/MSO providers, Government, Enterprise and channel
partners. Primary product line focus is Ciena’s Optical Transport (4200) and Converged Packet Optical
(6500) systems while secondary product line focus is Packet Networking systems. Responsible for helping
to improve company wide Systems Engineering processes through the direct support and creation of
configuration, quoting and stencil tools for all product lines. Administer a portal of communication located
on the company intranet that enables a single repository of valuable resource information. Constructed and
maintained a product test bed for internal use combining both Optical Transport Network and Carrier
Ethernet equipment tied together with the Unified Network Management System for corporate wide SE
demonstration and training purposes.
 Sales Systems Engineer (5/07- 3/09)
Duties: Worked with the Qwest account team in both pre and post technical sales support. Provided first
line assistance with systems design support for Metro, Regional, Long and Ultra-Long Haul optical
networks deployed across the United States. Primarily worked with Qwest transport planners in both their
National and Local markets providing accurate quotes and design specifications for channel-add projects to
existing networks as well as new network system designs utilizing the lasted in fiber optic transmission
systems across a variety of system platforms. Was responsible for all post-sale deployment designs for
services provide by Ciena on behalf of Qwest and their customers, continuously looking for ways to
improve and enhance the performance of their networks while simultaneously providing lower deployment
and operational costs for Qwest.
AEROFLEX Wichita, Inc., Wichita, KS
October 2004 through April 2007
Positions held:
 Product Services Engineer
Duties: Developed and implemented plans and programs for increasing service revenue utilizing progressive
marketing and sales strategies. Designed a pricing system and company services database by which
customers’ service needs could be quickly assessed, quotes generated and customer contract information be
maintained. Through the development of an advertising campaign via various means of communication and
by actively promoting and soliciting business for the company through the creation of service agreement
and contract programs, service revenue recognized by the company increased by 350% after the first year of
implementation.
CIENA Corporation, Linthicum, MD
June 1997 through May 2004
Positions held:
 Associate Test Engineer
Sept. 2001 – May 2004
Duties: Provided engineering support for fiber-optic telecommunication products in a manufacturing
systems test environment that included test plan creation, testing procedure implementation and work
instruction details. Performed validation testing for new software loads, hardware modules and system
functionality for production use both internally and with off-site contract manufacturers. Created automated
test programs to assist specific test functions as well as to insure proper data collection. Was responsible for
all non-revenue and capital equipment from selection to procurement to installation/maintenance and
inventory control.
 Associate Product Support Engineer
Dec. 1999 – Aug. 2001
Duties: Design of test stations for multiple product lines in a Systems Test environment; procurement of
material and equipment necessary for the specifications of product to be tested, ranging from fiber selection
and cabinet design to test equipment selection and station construction material and ergonomic
functionality; designing and promoting the use of multiple types of custom test fixtures whose functions
were to speed production through reduced material intervention.
 Product Support Technologist
Sept. 1998 – Nov. 1999
Duties: Was responsible for the daily production support of manufacturing testing in a Systems Test
environment. Assisted in construction and maintenance of test stations utilizing the latest in optical
telecommunications test equipment and infrastructure.
 Lead Troubleshoot Technician
Nov. 1997 – Aug. 1998
Duties: Was responsible for the timely, accurate troubleshooting and repair of complex telecommunications
equipment ranging from production line modules to Systems tested modules to RMA modules. Oversaw all
activities of an Environmental Stress Simulation (ESS) chamber from managing the timely flow of product
through the chamber to monitoring overall quality performance characteristics of the chamber.
 Electronic Technician
June 1997 – October 1997
Duties: Performed optical, electrical and RF testing functions for telecommunication modules utilizing
automated programs as well as manual test equipment.
