INDUSTRIAL EXPOSURE
GAIL (India) Ltd was incorporated in August 1984 as a Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU)
under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The company was initially given the
responsibility of operation & maintenance of the Petrochemical Complex, Pata, Auraiya, UP,
India. It was one of the largest Gas Cracker Plant in India.

2. Description
Gail India Ltd is operating Gas Processing Unit (GPU). The Gas Processing Unit comprises of
the Gas Sweetening unit and the C2/C3 Recovery unit. The CO2
present in the natural gas
is removed and ethane+ liquid hydrocarbon mixture is extracted, which is the feedstock for
production of LPG, C2/C3, SBPS (Special Boiling Point Solvents) and Pentane. The lean gas is
compressed in two Gas Turbine driven Lean Gas compressors and sent back to the HBJ
pipeline. The waste heat from the Gas Turbine exhaust is used to run two heat recovery steam
generators to produce VHP steam
Nature of work and Responsibilities
 Looking physical parameters/healthiness of machines/vessels during of operation and
process and report to shift engineer about the abnormalities, deviation.
Also maintain the record in logbook on daily basis.
 Make fine tuning of the process through field operation in Close Co-ordination with
control room for smooth and trouble free operation. Experience in Handling of
emergency through field like Power failure, fire in Regenerator column, Product
pump/Amine pump tripping etc.
 Carry out Flawless & Smooth and safe Startup as well as shut down according to the
SOP in case of emergency or preplan action.
 In turn round involve in all activities like purging the equipment and vessels, hydro
testing, system pressurization, leakage detecting test.
 Regulars checking of critical points and always remember the tripping points and
interlock system.
 Regulars done routine job i.e. flushing, pump change over and problems like
mechanical, instrument problems detection & hand over to relative department with
safety work permit with the help of shift engineer.
 During shift find out the BBS (behavior based safety) and Hazard and report it.
 Follow the SOP and evacuate the risk by RISK ASSEMENT while carried out any job.
 Discuss the various problems and troubleshooting & modification and shearing ideas
with colleagues.

 Separators (flash drum and knock out drum)
 Five stage centrifugal pumps, Reciprocating pumps,
Diaphragms pumps, Gear pumps, Centrifuge.
