The digital divide and civic tech (TICTec 2016, Helen Milner)Helen Milner
Civic tech can't make the impact it needs to if those working in the sector don't understand that more than half of the world's population doesn't use the internet. Blending my knowledge of digital exclusion, digital inclusion and the digital divide, and my time on the Speaker's Commission for Digital Democracy, this speech asks some difficult questions about how we can work in partnership to make real impact for the people who need better democracies and better lives.
Digital and Social Media with all the scholarly representations by so many scholars and netizens confuses us all a lot. This session tried to simplify the understanding of both in the simplest ways possible. And at the same time, discussed the scientific ways in which digital & social medis has evolved, developed and matured over their respective life spans!
The AI Initiative endeavors to engage all relevant stakeholders to help shape the global policy framework needed to address the challenges of the ongoing race for the development and control of Artificial Intelligence.
We will work to acquire donations and fund development of key projects: Trusted News, Outcome-based Consensus, a Mobile civ.works platform and Virtual TownWorks.

Joey Coleman - Building an Open Data Ecosystem for all to access#DevTO
How do we build open data so it is accessible to all citizens and not just those with specialized skills such as information management or coding? In Hamilton, municipal open data is being implemented because of advocacy among neighbourhood associations and community groups, not solely from the developer community, with the goal of ensuring all citizens can use open data. It’s a unique partnership – what does it mean for open data, open government, and civic engagement? Join this discussion as we explore the question.
A preview of the UnBias Fairness Toolkit, a civic thinking tool promoting awareness of algorithmic bias for young people and means to stimulate a public civic dialogue.
ict tools and platforms have changed the way people communicate because through ict people can communicate even if they are far from each other. people do not need to wait how many days to receive the letter/message that their relatives send, but trough ict just a blink of an eye they can send a message directly. ICT can be used as a medium in promoting different advocacies and causes mainly because it is effortless and it does not need any exceeded effort to perform. ICT makes our work easier therefore it can also make the other things we do easier including promoting causes

Challenges, Opportunities and Risks for a Smart FutureMLOVE ConFestival
We live in times that are as exciting as unsure at once. For many it is the most stunning and promising era in human society and for others it is a scary derangement of the old world. To find a path which leads us into a great future we created a comprehensive study to get insights about possible ways and hypotheses.
MLOVE and VISITOR FIRST plan to expand their initial scoping research on the relations between people and future technologies of Mobility, Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities. It considers important questions such as the consequences of bringing cutting edge technology into everyday life and the hopes, visions and fears tied to this process. The social frameworks that produce these technologies will also be analyzed.
MLOVE is a global community that brings together CEOs, CMOs, innovators and startup entrepreneurs from across multiple disci- plines to share, learn and inspire ideas with an array of scientists, artists and other pioneers.
In VISITOR FIRST, MLOVE found a partner with several years of experience in the field of ethnographic research and holistic research designs within a business context.

Amongst the cities to implement CitySDK are Amsterdam, Manchester, Helsinki and Lisbon; many more to follow.
