a nature reserve in a way that effectively accomplishes
the goal of the reserve”
Reserve establishment has a variety of goals, which
includes habitat preference, migration, climate change,
and public support
4. PURPOSE OFRESERVES
Protection of biodiversity from harmful activities
and processes, both natural and anthropogenic
Contribution in enhancing local sustainability and
meeting biodiversity targets
Providing controlled opportunities for scientific
research, education, engagement and recreation of
public
Providing secondary benefits such as economic
contributions from enhanced tourism and
opportunities for specialist training
6. RESERVE LOCATION
Nature reserves must be established in species rich
geographic locations
This includes biodiversity hotspots, ancient
woodland, and unique habitats such as wetlands,
bogs, ecosites or endemic islands
7. PROTECTEDAREAS OF PAKISTAN
“A protected area is a clearly defined geographical
space, recognized, dedicated and managed, through
legal or other effective means, to achieve the long term
conservation of nature with associated ecosystem
services and cultural values”
There are 25 National Parks, 79 Wildlife Sanctuaries,
83 Game Reserves and 114 Community Conservation
Areas covering an area of 109,969 km2 or 12.54% of the
area of Pakistan
