2. Introduction
• The study of knowledge systems is essential to understanding the intellectual
and cultural heritage of a society.
• India is a country with a rich and diverse history of knowledge production
spanning centuries.
• India has been a treasure of civilization, fostering ancient knowledge traditions
in fields such as philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, and the arts.
• The post-independence era witnessed a resurgence in scholarly interest in
understanding and preserving this indigenous knowledge.
• This bibliometric analysis aims to provide insights into the evolving landscape of
Indian knowledge systems from 1985 to 2023, offering a comprehensive
overview of the scholarly output, thematic areas, and collaborative networks.
3. Literature Review
• When the number of published articles reaches a certain level, various
literature reviews are conducted to synthesise meaningful information and
provide a valuable perception of the area.
• Malapane et al. (2022) conducted a bibliometric analysis and systematic
review of indigenous knowledge from a comparative African perspective,
1990–2020.
• Onyancha (2022) conducted a bibliometric analysis of the differences among
indigenous knowledge, traditional knowledge, and local knowledge.
• Petzold et al. (2020). conducted a bibliometric analysis of Indigenous
knowledge on climate change adaptation.
• Maluleka & Ngulube (2019) conducted a bibliometric analysis of indigenous
knowledge in Africa.
• Kwanya & Kiplang'at (2016) conducted a bibliometric analysis of Indigenous
knowledge research in Kenya.
• A literature review indicates that a more comprehensive understanding of
the research trends of the indigenous knowledge system in India can be
obtained through bibliometric analysis.
