Total Film Front Cover and Contents Page
House Style:
• The masthead ‘Total Film’ is always featured in the same font with ‘TOTAL’
The first font is “Ekster Black” and (designed by Ilya Naumoff and
published by Indian Type Foundry). This font iconic and associated with the
brand image although the colours of the masthead vary, complimenting
the theme and colour scheme of the magazine. This magazine is therefore
easily identifiable by its masthead which is used throughout the brand and
is on the magazines website in the same font type and format (‘Total’) is
written at the top inside the letter ‘F’ of ‘FILM’.
• On the double spread content page the title ‘Contents’ is written in the
same font as ‘TOTAL’ from the masthead ‘TOTAL FILM’ in keeping with the
magazines theme and consistent black, red and white colour scheme of
this magazine.
• Throughout the magazine the same font types and colour scheme are used
in order to keep in theme with the magazine.
Total Film Brand Image and House Design
• Total Film has built a strong brand image by providing in-depth analysis, exclusive interviews, and engaging features on a wide range of movies and genres. Total
Film aims to be a trusted source for film enthusiasts, offering a blend of entertainment and informative journalism.
Format/Proportions/Dimensions:
• Total Film magazine typically follows a standard magazine format, with dimensions ranging from approximately 8.5 x 11 inches (21.6 x 27.9 cm) to 9 x 12 inches
(22.9 x 30.5 cm). These dimensions allow for an reading experience and provide ample space for visuals as well as text.
Use of Colours and Shapes:
• Total Film employs a dynamic use of color and shapes in its design.
• The magazine features vibrant and eye-catching colors to attract readers' attention and create a visually appealing layout and matches the theme of the contents of
the magazine.
• Shapes are used strategically to frame images, highlight key elements, and create a sense of movement or visual interest within the layout.
Font Types:
• Total Film uses a combination of serif and sans-serif fonts in its design. Serif fonts, which have small decorative strokes at the ends of letters, are often used for
headlines and titles to add a touch of elegance and authority. Sans-serif fonts, which lack those strokes, are commonly used for body text and captions due to their
clean and legible appearance. The specific fonts chosen may vary, but they are generally selected for readability and compatibility with the overall aesthetic of the
magazine they are also in bold which aids to the aesthetic and simple yet effective design elements.
Total Film Brand Image and House Design
Images:
• Total Film incorporates a wide range of images, including movie stills, promotional photos, and artwork related to films. These images are carefully selected to
enhance the content and provide visual context for the articles. High-quality and visually captivating images are used to engage readers and convey the atmosphere
and essence of the films being discussed.
Camera Shots:
• In film analysis or reviews, Total Film uses various camera shots to describe and analyze the visual aspects of movies. These shots may include close-ups, medium
shots, wide shots, and more, depending on the specific scene or cinematic technique being discussed. Camera shots are used to provide readers with a deeper
understanding of the visual storytelling and technical aspects of the films.
Composition:
• Total Film pays attention to the composition of its articles and layouts. Composition refers to the arrangement of visual elements such as images, text, and graphics
within a page. The magazine aims to create visually balanced and aesthetically pleasing compositions that guide readers through the content and facilitate a easy
and efficient reading experience. Composition techniques like grids, focal points, and hierarchy are employed to organize information effectively and maintain
reader engagement.
Codes:
• Total Film explores and analyzes these codes in its articles, shedding light on the symbolism, storytelling techniques, and cinematic language employed in films.
This analysis helps readers gain a deeper understanding of the films they watch and appreciate the artistry behind the films on a deeper level.
Conventions:
• Total Film uses industry conventions and standards in its coverage of films. These conventions include providing objective film reviews, conducting interviews with
filmmakers and actors, reporting on industry news and trends, and offering behind-the-scenes insights into the filmmaking process. By following these conventions,
Total Film maintains credibility and relevance within the film industry and from its audience.

House Style:
• The masthead for the magazine ‘SciFiNow’ is again placed at the top and the
importance of the magazine name is made clear on top every single time.
• In the main images the characters are directly addressing the character.
• Majority of the headline writing is placed at the bottom with a couple on the
right or left.
• Both magazines have a colour theme of black white and red.
• The typography for ‘SciFiNow’ looks very curvy and is a reminder of fonts used for
different SciFi films.
• The typography for the headlines are just bold and simple to catch attention of
the reader.
• The magazine’s contents page is a double spread and the same font used within
the magazine cover are used within the contents page using the same magazines
colour scheme.
SciFiNow Brand Image and House Design

• The brand image and house style of SciFiNow follow a standardized format, with consistent proportions and dimensions across different platforms (both on their website and magazines). This ensures a cohesive and
recognizable visual identity.
Use of colours and shapes:
• SciFiNow incorporates a distinct color palette and employs specific shapes to create a visually striking and futuristic aesthetic. The colors and shapes used are carefully selected to evoke a sense of sci-fi and captivate
the audience.
Font types:
• The choice of font types in SciFiNow leans towards sans-serif fonts, which are more modern and streamlined. This typography choice aligns with the futuristic theme.

• Images featured often showcase futuristic technology, otherworldly landscapes, or iconic sci-fi characters. These images are visually captivating and reinforce the brand's identity.

• SciFiNow adheres to conventions prevalent in the sci-fi genre, while also pushing boundaries and introducing innovative ideas. It embraces elements like time travel, artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial life, and
dystopian futures. By incorporating these conventions, SciFiNow caters to the interests and expectations of its target audience.

Empire Brand Image and House Design
• The masthead for the magazine ‘Empire’ is placed at the top of and the importance of the
magazine name.
• It identifies the brand. It is located at the top centre of the magazine. ‘EMPIRE’ magazine is also
designed to attract the audience from a cover. The word “EMPIRE” has a bold style which is
replicated on their website and the same font is used within the magazine especially so in the
contents page and is used as the font for the cover lines.
• Both magazine and contents have a colour theme of black, white, blue and orange.
• The typography for the classic version of the masthead ‘Empire’ is based on the font ‘Relay’
and is bold and eye catching, used in all of ‘Empire’ magazines and content pages and is
used on their main website – this is widely recognised and is part of the film magazine
brand image.
• The typography for the headlines are just bold and simple to catch attention of the reader.
• The magazine’s contents page is a double spread and the same font used within the magazine
cover are used within the contents page using the same magazines colour scheme.

the brand's message.

Total Film Front Cover and Contents Page House Style: • The masthead ‘Total Film’ is always featured in the same font with ‘TOTAL’ The first font is “Ekster Black” and (designed by Ilya Naumoff and published by Indian Type Foundry). This font iconic and associated with the brand image although the colours of the masthead vary, complimenting the theme and colour scheme of the magazine. This magazine is therefore easily identifiable by its masthead which is used throughout the brand and is on the magazines website in the same font type and format (‘Total’) is written at the top inside the letter ‘F’ of ‘FILM’. • On the double spread content page the title ‘Contents’ is written in the same font as ‘TOTAL’ from the masthead ‘TOTAL FILM’ in keeping with the magazines theme and consistent black, red and white colour scheme of this magazine. • Throughout the magazine the same font types and colour scheme are used in order to keep in theme with the magazine.

SciFiNow Front Cover and Contents Page House Style: • The masthead for the magazine ‘SciFiNow’ is again placed at the top and the importance of the magazine name is made clear on top every single time. • In the main images the characters are directly addressing the character. • Majority of the headline writing is placed at the bottom with a couple on the right or left. • Both magazines have a colour theme of black white and red. • The typography for ‘SciFiNow’ looks very curvy and is a reminder of fonts used for different SciFi films. • The typography for the headlines are just bold and simple to catch attention of the reader. • The magazine’s contents page is a double spread and the same font used within the magazine cover are used within the contents page using the same magazines colour scheme.

The word “EMPIRE” has a bold style which is replicated on their website and the same font is used within the magazine especially so in the contents page and is used as the font for the cover lines. • Both magazine and contents have a colour theme of black, white, blue and orange. • The typography for the classic version of the masthead ‘Empire’ is based on the font ‘Relay’ and is bold and eye catching, used in all of ‘Empire’ magazines and content pages and is used on their main website – this is widely recognised and is part of the film magazine brand image. • The typography for the headlines are just bold and simple to catch attention of the reader. • The magazine’s contents page is a double spread and the same font used within the magazine cover are used within the contents page using the same magazines colour scheme.
