Abstract: We investigate the problem of choice overload – the difficulty of making a decision when faced with many options – when displaying related-article recommendations in digital libraries. So far, research regarding to how many items should be displayed has mostly been done in the fields of media recommendations and search engines. We analyze the number of recommendations in current digital libraries. When browsing fullscreen with a laptop or desktop PC, all display a fixed number of recommendations. 72% display three, four, or five recommendations, none display more than ten. We provide results from an empirical evaluation conducted with GESIS ’ digital library Sowiport, with recommen dations delivered by recommendations-as-a-service provider Mr. DLib.
We use click-through rate as a measure of recommendation effectiveness based on 3.4 million delivered recommendations. Our results show lower click-through rates for higher numbers of recommendations and twice as many clicked recommendations when displaying ten instead of one related-articles. Our results indicate that users might quickly feel overloaded by choice.

Module 3 Week 6: The Purpose Statement
In this course, you have learned that a final problem statement normally takes many months to develop. Yet this week, you are asked to begin to develop the purpose statement. This is not because your problem statement is finalized but because it is time for you to evaluate and practice creating the rest of the common components of the doctoral capstone. This is part of the iterative process of preparing the capstone.
Remember, though, that the assignments in this course are unlikely to be final versions of your study. The intention is to help you to understand and prepare for what you will need to write in your capstone.
The purpose statement serves as the connection between the problem being addressed and the focus of the study. Depending on the methodology, in:
· Quantitative studies, state what needs to be studied by describing two or more factors (variables) and a conjectured relationship between (among) them related to the identified gap in practice or problem;
· Qualitative studies, describe the need for increased understanding about the issue to be studied (based on the identified gap or problem); and
· Mixed-methods studies (with both quantitative and qualitative aspects), clarify how the two approaches will be used together to inform the study.
Notes on Readings
This week’s readings continue to provide information on how to review the research literature. Apply this guidance to your ongoing efforts to read and take notes interactively in the research relevant to your problem. The media and other resources, this week, will help you to develop your understanding of the purpose statement.

Stephen King, who has written more than 50 novels—and other books that have sold hundreds of millions of copies—also wrote about how he writes. In his book, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, King explains that his iterative approach to writing involves writing, putting it aside, writing something else, and then returning to the first draft.
While it is unlikely you will adopt Stephen King’s ritual for draft versions, recognize that “writing drafts” are an essential part of the process. This week’s writing assignment allows you to present an improved and refined problem statement and an aligned purpose statement.

Task based learning
Task-based learning (TBL) is an approach where students learn by completing meaningful tasks using target knowledge. It originates from language education where tasks allow natural and meaningful learning of structures. A task is an activity with a goal that requires using target knowledge like IT. There are six types of tasks including listing, ordering, comparing, problem-solving, sharing experiences, and creative tasks. The TBL framework involves four stages: pre-task where teachers choose materials; task preparation where teachers introduce topics and students prepare; task realization where students complete tasks; and post-task knowledge focus and reflection.

Previous empirical studies have suggested that the current teaching practices in a L2writing classroom do not lead to the desired learning outcomes.(Rod Ellis,2013) A judicious mix of technology and pedagogy is necessary in today’s context (McCann, 2005) Deficiency with proof However, very little attention has been paid to achieving learning outcomes in a L2 writing classroom using learning management systems. To the researcher’s knowledge, there are only two studies concerning this issue at tertiary level. Zulich (2019) showed that there is no conclusive evidence on the positive impact of technology integration in a writing classroom. Graham (2020) argues that technological intervention provide a collaborative space to foster writing skills.
