 The issue of speaking skills of Russian
students
 The existing methods of enhancing speaking
skills of elementary level students
 Discovering the reasons of unwillingness to
communicate and the ways to overcome the
language barriers
 To define the strengths and weaknesses of
speaking skills of today’s students in Russia
 To demonstrate the possibilities of
enhancement of the speaking skills of
students learning English
 Problem of speaking skills is crucial in Russia
 Reasons include lack of confidence and
anxiety(Trent 2009)
 Enough time is not given for the improvement
of speaking ability
 Students are scolded and discouraged for not
speaking correctly
 Both teachers and students are responsible
for the poor speaking ability
 EFL speakers have limited opportunities to
speak English and their exposure to English
speakers is also limited
 Working in pairs(or groups), students often
begin to use their native language
 Lack of information of the topic being
discussed
 Friendly atmosphere should be created by the
teacher
 Use of traditional and modern technology
 Web based technologies and useful internet
sites enable students to learn the language
 Frequent listening to English materials
