2. Why are we doing this research?
We are doing research into our topic to get more detail before starting our
filming. We can get more information this way and form a more rounded
and well informed opinion on the issues with technology.
Doing this research will also help us understand what we are talking about
more clearly and be able to present the information better if we have more
information and a more in-depth understanding of the topic.
Having more research means that we can form more objective opinions
and present more facts and statistics to the viewer.

4. “Although cell phones are now the predominant form of interpersonal communication, the way they
are used significantly varies between generations. Youngsters use their phones for a variety of activities
such as taking photos, texting, going online, instant messaging, emailing, playing games, listening to
music, and even recording and watching videos while adults progressively according to their age
progression, restrict the use of these devices to fewer and fewer activities. Interestingly, Pew Research
found that the one cell phone activity that transcends age is taking photos, with adults just as likely to
click photos on the cell phone cameras as the young. However, the type of photos taken differs, with
adolescents clicking more selfies that adults.”
Younger people use phones for more things, older people restrict their use and use them for fewer
things.
All generations of phone users take photos. Younger people take more selfies than old people.
“The Internet seems to be a good leveler of digital use, at least within the US. While fewer than 60% of
senior citizens (ages >65) are conversant with and use the Internet in 2014, the percentages are
comparable for all other age groups; 92% for teens, 97% for young adults (18-29 years), 94% for the
mid-lifers (30-49%) and 88% for older adults (50-64%). How the internet is used also varies among age
groups. While teenagers and young adults under age 30 use the Internet to find information, socialize,
play, shop and perhaps conduct business, older users visit government websites or seek financial
information online. However this gap is narrowing, according to Pew Research, and activities such as
emails and search engines being increasingly used by all age groups that are online”
Most people use the internet, teenagers and young adults use the internet in a lot of different ways.
“Social media is another area where there is an age difference. While the percentage of adults who use
social media (72%) is not that different from the youngsters in it (81%), there is a difference in the type
of social media applications that is favored. Youngsters (teens and young adults) seem more prevalent
in social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter while adults dominate tumblr, Instagram
and Pinterest. Adults are largely passive or semi-active users of social media as seen in that adults
typically add contacts only on request while adolescents actively seek new friendships.”
Teenagers and adults use different social medias. Adults use tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest more.

6. How are we going to use this
research?
We are going to use this research to provide the audience with statistics
and objective facts.
This research will also help us guide the documentary and how we are
going to form our own research and investigation.
We will use this research
7. What have I learned about my topic?
I learned that older people are getting more involved in using new
technologies in recent years compared to when they were first introduced.
I also learned that eve if the difference of social media used between
adults and teenagers isn’t that large, how the social media is being used
differs from generation to generation.
Across all generations there is a rising trend of people finding out their
news using the internet.
Younger kids watch the most TV across the board and teenagers spend
most time online.
8. Does it help when deciding on
narrative and mode?
It help us decide on using an open narrative as there is a lot of studies and
some have contradictory information so we will finish and pose a question
rather than draw a conclusion. This is also an issue that is still expanding
and something that is modern so new information is still coming.
9. Does it help decide our target
audience?
The information helped decide our target audience as it establishes that
teenagers spend a lot of time online therefore they are the most relevant
group for us to establish them as our target audience.
10. An existing documentary that’s related
to our topic.
Cyber Seniors is a documentary which concentrates on older people and
the topic of technology. This is partially relevant to our documentary and it
might even gives us ideas and references to studies that could be useful to
us.
