Abstract:
As of 2015, thirty seven U.S. states have legalize same sex marriage, and with
arguments in a landmark case currently being presented in the Supreme Court this
month; there is little doubt that the modern definition of legal marriage will soon be
forever changed in The United States. While same sex marriage is still the center of
fierce debate and opposition from primarily religious conservatives, public opinion
reflects a more tolerant social consensus. Despite this relatively recent legal trend of
marriage law reform, same sex relationships are obviously nothing new. Like same
sex relationships, polygamous relationships have also existed in the U.S. regardless
of state recognition. Curiously, unlike same sex marriage, virtually no significant
progress has been made for legal recognition of polyamorous unions. One could argue
that poly progress is more than just stagnant, but moving in a negative direction
considering Supreme Court rulings consistently upholding polygamy bans.
Mainstream representation of polygamy, or debate and discussion on its merits seem
virtually non existent, save the occasional voyeurism of reality television shows or
liberalism of think pieces buried deep within online newspapers archives. Monogamy
commands such extreme reinforcement in American culture that polygamy is
unconsciously considered not up for debate, and synonymous with evil even across

Public Attitudes Toward African Americans With Mental...
This paper examines the inequalities that African Americans with mental disabilities
face in their daily lives. It argues that this constituency receives inadequate medical
access and services, different treatment of their disability, and is highly stigmatized
as compared to Whites. In order to support my argument I examine public attitudes
towards blacks with mental illnesses, their depiction in the media, and contemporary
issues related to the topic. I draw on specific course concepts such as ableism and
use an intersectional approach to show that African Americans are not given the
proper attention they deserve. In the first section of this paper, I examine public
attitudes toward African Americans who have mental disabilities and how this affects
their treatment options. In the second section, I explore the limited portrayal of
blacks with mental disabilities in television and film. In the third and final section, I
discuss recent issues regarding the lack of Black disabilitystudies. By researching this
topic, I hope to bring more awareness and acceptance of African Americans with
mental disabilities. I also want to add more scholarship to the field, which is much
needed.

The book I chose to do an integrated unit on was The Skin You Live In by Michael
Taylor with second grade students aged 7 8 years old. The big, colorful pages are
vibrant and easy to absorb. This book delivers an important message about
acceptance to young readers. It also has a great message that we are all different
and the same and we should love ourselves for who we are. I have developed three
activities that introduce concept explorations and challenge students to accept all
cultures. It is very beneficial to involve learningstudents cognitively, emotionally, and
physically. These lessons demonstrate learning experiences that are beneficial and
relevant to children all over the world (Davis, 2011). For the math activity, I chose an
activity that came from China, it is called Five Up Dominos. The children will use
their math skills and practice addition and multiplication. For the science activity, the
students will do an experiment called Save the Flag. This activity teaches students
how to preserve certain material such as a countries flag. For the social studies
activity, the children will make a garland of flags based on a country they research.
The math concepts taught in this lesson are teaching the students how to use certain
math formulas, and practice addition and multiplication. It is beneficial for students
to know what tools to use for capturing and displaying information that is important
