- 2. Population • As of 2017 the population of york is 208,200 and this an increase of 5.1% since 2011. In 2011, there were 101,797 women and 96,254 men within the city. As a percentage, 51.4% of the city are female and 48.6% are male. • From 2011, age statistics show that 158,773 adults above the age of 16 live in york but the main majority of them are between the ages of 35 and 54. The median age of York is 38 years of age. Employment (2011) • 98,721 people in the workforce between 16 and 74. • 20.1% professional occupations. • 10.5% managerial sector. • 12.1% associate professional sector. • 10.4% administrative and secretarial work. • 10% skilled trades. • 9.1% care services. • 10.4% sales. • 5.7% processors. • 11.7% educators.

- 4. Guild of Media Arts • York is designated a UNESCO City of Media Arts and a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. UNESCO stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation and is a specialised agency of the united nations. • UNESCO strengthen ties between nations and societies and promote the idea that each child and citizen should: • Have access to quality education; • Grow and live in a cultural environment rich in diversity, where heritage serves as a bridge between generations and peoples; • Fully benefit from scientific advantages; • Enjoy full freedom and expression; the basis of democracy, development and human dignity. York Mediale • York Mediale is a new media arts festival which will run biennially with the aim to galvanise the region’s media arts capacity through participation, talent development and co-production. The festival was a celebration of cutting-edge media arts. York Mediale originally took place 27th September – 6th October 2018 and the next festival in 2020 has been confirmed after the success of 2018.
- 5. Audience • In York, a lot of 16-24 year olds go to the skatepark and ride skateboards, BMX or scooters. This is a hot topic in York as there is a free outdoor skatepark fairly close to the center. Mental Health • Three quarters of adults with mental illness first experience symptoms before age 25. • Many mental health problems peak in the 18-25 age range. • Young women aged 16-24 experience the highest rates of common mental disorders out of all age categories. • Common mental health issues like depression and anxiety are on the increase amongst 16-24s: 19% experienced them in 2014, compared to 15% in 1993.

Northern rail • Northern plays a vital role in the north of England by connecting tens of thousands of people to work, leisure, education and more every day. • Northern is part of the Arriva group and is one of the leading providers of passenger transport in Europe. • 53,000 people employed. • 2 billion passenger journeys a year across 14 European countries. • Northern rail is part of Deutsche Bahn and this is one of the world’s leading passenger and logistics companies. • Northern rail was an English train operating company owned by Serco-Abellio from 2004 until 2016. • Northern has trains that call at 528 stations. • 281 new carriages within three years. • A 12 per cent increase in the number of services by 2019.
- 10. Photo manipulation • Photo manipulation is an art where you can alter an image to create different effects using different techniques or most commonly, using a photo editing software. Image manipulation is usually created for constructive purposes but also people can create beautiful art. To be able to know how to create an image with image manipulation you need to learn the basics of image editing like cut, crop, replace etc. Also you need an image editing software to create the best manipulation but it doesn’t really matter what software you use as long as you know how to use it.

Existing Work This piece of work is a movie poster and I think I could possibly do something like this for my final piece because I am wanting to make a manipulation photo but I didn’t exactly know how I wanted to show it off. I am still deciding if to either do a manipulative magazine cover or a movie poster but this is an example of a movie poster. If I end up changing my mind half way through it wont be much of a problem because I could easily change the way the font will look after the main image is finished. I will be able to design it how I want as I can make the image different styles and turn it into a magazine to promote something if I want.
