This document provides an overview of renal ultrasound techniques. It discusses several ultrasound modes including B-mode, Doppler, and 3D ultrasound that are used to image the kidneys. Normal kidney anatomy is described for fetal, infant, and adult kidneys. Renal ultrasound is also used to diagnose many renal disorders including congenital, traumatic, inflammatory, neoplastic, and other parenchymal diseases. Doppler ultrasound can assess blood flow in the renal arteries and veins and is useful for evaluating transplanted kidneys and other vascular conditions.
