It is a question of regional usage but according to The Grammarist tire is used mainly in the US and Canada: Tire and tyre both mean a covering for a wheel, usually made of rubber. Tire is the preferred spelling in the U.S. and Canada. Tyre is preferred in most varieties of English outside North America.

A literature review on life cycle analysis of tyre retreadingijsrd.com
This paper describes the literature review of a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of Tyre Retreading study. Over the last 20 years there has been an exponential rise in the number of reports in the area of Tyre Retreading. In a recent publication, the authors surveyed the major findings and conclusions on this subject. The present paper is a summary of that publication. It is designed to assist one in quickly becoming acquainted with the significant findings and landmark publications on the many different aspects of Tyre Retreading. Also LCA study covered two different retreading options of used tyres. The review was conducted by three-member review panel. It should be noted that the preliminary administrative tasks took more time than expected. Many questions or comments were answered, which contributed to the improvement of the LCA report concerning methodology, data quality and clarity aspects, and to highlighting some research directions.

Overview
The Way to Saving National Resource
5. The Tire retreading industry exists to provide long durability under heavy load
and high temperature operating conditions.
A tire – especially Radial tire - is built with robust steel strand technology,
to give long durability, under heavy load and high temperature operating
conditions. This structure is called the casing.
The contact medium between a robust casing and the road is the rubber
tread-affixed to the casing.
When the tread is worn out, we need to change the rubber, rather than
throwing away the robust casing.,,,,
1. saves huge costs for the fleet operator.
2. Reduces the number of tires that need to be dumped in baladia which spoils the
environment (by lying down as a SOLID steel waste without getting disintegrated).
3. Reduces the number of new tires that need to be manufactured, saving huge
petroleum resources.
Retreading is used safely every day on airplanes, school busses, fire engines, ambulances,
trucking fleets, taxis postal service vehicles, military vehicles and by millions of drivers.
Within the aircraft tire industry, retreading service is fully utilized worldwide with 100% usability!
Jet tires are retreated 8 times prior to disposal.

Retreading in REMAN's plant goes through the following processes:
Initial inspection: The purpose of the initial inspection is to verify that a casing
is acceptable for retreading, identify casing injuries and determine if repairable,
and approve the casing for processing.
Buffing: The primary objective of buffing is to prepare the worn out surface of
the tire to receive a retread.
Tread building: It is the process of applying a pre-cured tread belt to the buffed
and prepared casing in perfect match.
Enveloping: The tire is enveloped by a flexible casing which firmly and uniformly
holds the tread belt on the casing by a controlled vacuum system during the
process of curing.
Curing: The purpose of curing is to apply specified heat and pressure over a
period of time to vulcanize the rubber so that the rubber is cured to the point
of best physical properties and maximum adhesion to the adjacent elements.
Final inception: To ensure quality retreading, each tire passes thorough a final
inception. It is mandatory that the tire meets all industry and government
regulations, before delivery for Service.

Why REMAN?
Up To Over : Load, Heat and Speed !!
Whether you are a driver looking for ways to stretch the budget or a fleet
manager buying thousands of tires a year, you would be interested in retreaded
tires for one basic reason - to save money.
It is a well established fact that, retreaded tire costs are less in terms of
production compared with new tires. It does sell for less, usually between
30 and 50 % of the comparable new tire price.
REMAN has the knowledge that when a tire becomes worn and seems ready
for discard, the bulk of its cost remains unrecovered, while in fact, the tire's
useful life has hardly begun!
Safe
50% SAVING
˜ It is a fact that the manufacture of a new medium truck tire requires
approximately 22 gallons of oil, whereas it only requires 7 gallons of oil to
retread, saving petroleum resources.

continue their useful lives for thousands of more kilometers.
9. Myth: Rubber on the road comes from retreaded tires.
Fact: The rubber pieces you see on the road come from both new and retreaded
tires in equal proportions to their usage on roads. Multiple Federal and State
studies have proven this fact and that most of the rubber on the road comes
from truck tires and is caused mainly by under inflation, overloading, and tire abuse.
Myth: Retreaded tires are not as safe as new tires.
Fact: Retreaded tires are just as safe as new tires. Adjustment percentages of
retreaded tires are about the same as new tires. Statistics compiled by the U.S.
Department of Transportation show that nearly all tires involved in any tire
related accidents are underinflated or bald. Properly maintained tires, whether
new or retreaded, do not cause accidents. Retreaded tires are used safely
everyday by ambulances, fire engines, school buses, and aircraft.
Myth: There aren’t any standards that control the quality and safety of
retreaded tires.
Fact: There are. Passenger, light pick-up, and 4x4 tires are retreaded according
to standards established by the U.S. Department of Transportation and carry
a code number (**) on the sidewall indicating where and when the tire was
retreaded. The overall quality of retreaded truck tires has increased dramatically
in recent years with the introduction of advanced technology, including the use
of computers in manufacturing and non-destructive tire testing.
Myth: Retreaded tires can’t be driven at highway speeds.
Fact: Retreaded tires can be driven at the same legal speeds as comparable
new tires with no loss in safety or comfort.
Myth: There are certain driving conditions where retreaded tires should not
be driven.
Fact: Retreaded tires can be driven wherever comparable new tires can be
driven. The only restriction is on the steer axle of buses hauling passengers.
Myths Facts
From 1990 to 2003, the total number of scrap tires going to market increased
from 11 million to 233 million. Of all the scrap tires discarded today, over 75
percent are recycled, remanufacturing or used for fuel or other applications.
