The Data Driven University - Automating Data Governance and Stewardship in Au...Pieter De Leenheer
Data Governance and Stewardship requires automation of business semantics management at its nucleus, in order to achieve data trust between business and IT communities in the organization. University divisions operate highly autonomously and decentralized, and are often geographically distributed. Hence, they benefit more from an collaborative and agile approach to Data Governance and Stewardship approach that adapts to its nature.
In this lecture, we start by reviewing 'C' in ICT and reflect on the dilemma: what is the most important quality of data being shared: truth or trust? We review the wide spectrum of business semantics. We visit the different phases of growing data pain as an organization expands, and we map each phase on this spectrum of semantics.
Next, we introduce our principles and framework for business semantics management to support Data Governance and Stewardship focusing on the structural (what), processual (how) and organizational (who) components. We illustrate with use cases from Stanford University, George Washington University and Public Science and Innovation Administrations.
Big Data Journeys: Review of roadmaps taken by early adopters to achieve thei...Krishnan Parasuraman
Implementing a Big Data program can be a long and arduous journey. Each organization has its own unique business drivers and technical considerations that drive their big data adoption roadmaps. Whatever be your organization's specific big data driver - be it managing a rapid surge of data, implementing a new set of analytic capabilities, incorporating unstructured data as part of your enterprise data platform or accessing real time information for actionable intelligence - the approach and roadmap that you put in place to reach that end goal becomes all the more critical in a space where early success stories are relatively rare, skill sets are hard to find and technologies are still evolving.
In this session we will chronicle the journeys of four different organizations that were early adopters of big data. Each of them charted a different path to achieve their big data goals. We will look at what were the key drivers behind their respective approaches, what worked and what did not work for them.
SAS Customer Analytics for Insurance delivers specific analytical techniques to help you understand and drive decisions related to customer profitability. The solution enables you to segment customers according to a multitude of variables – including demographics, geographics, claims history and other behavioral attributes – to create more meaningful and targeted marketing programs that lead to improved retention rates.
White Paper - Data Warehouse GovernanceDavid Walker
An organisation that is embarking on a data warehousing project is undertaking a long-term development and maintenance programme of a computer system. This system will be critical to the organisation and cost a significant amount of money, therefore control of the system is vital. Governance defines the model the organisation will use to ensure optimal use and re- use of the data warehouse and enforcement of corporate policies (e.g. business design, technical design and application security) and ultimately derive value for money.
This paper has identified five sources of change to the system and the aspects of the system that these sources of change will influence in order to assist the organisation to develop standards and structures to support the development and maintenance of the solution. These standards and structures must then evolve, as the programme develops to meet its changing needs.
“Documentation is not understanding, process is not discipline, formality is not skill”1
The best governance must only be an aid to the development and not an end in itself. Data Warehouses are successful because of good understanding, discipline and the skill of those involved. On the other hand systems built to a template without understanding, discipline and skill will inevitably deliver a system that fails to meet the users’ needs and sooner rather than later will be left on the shelf, or maintained at a very high cost but with little real use.
In your cloud transition, don’t overlook the finance and accounting implications, which influence efforts from risk management and security to regulatory compliance. Reap the full benefits of an enterprisewide cloud deployment by following four strategies that will help you consider the holistic impact of the cloud.

The business models across industries around the world are becoming Customer Centric. Recent studies show that “knowing” customers based on internal as well as external data is one of the top priorities of business leaders. On the other hand various surveys also reveal that customers do not mind to share their semi-personal data for the benefit of differentiated service. In that context, the 360 degree view of customer – which was once thought to be a business process, master data management, data integration and data warehouse / business intelligence related problem has now entered into the whole new big world of BIG data including integration with unstructured data sources. Impact of big data on Customer Master Data Management is spread across - from Integration and linkage of unstructured or semi-structured data with structured master data that is maintained within enterprise; to analyze and visualization of the same to generate useful insight about the customers. There are various patterns to handle the challenges across the steps i.e. acquire, link, manage, analyze and distribute the enhanced customer data for differentiated product or services.
Big Data Impact on Purchasing and SCM - PASIA World Conference DiscussionBill Kohnen
The volume, velocity and variety of data available is almost unthinkable. 90% of the world’s data is less than 2 years old, we are able analyze less than 5% of it and 80% of what people generally are looking at is less than 6 weeks old. Harnessing this data for effective decision making is a goal for organizations worldwide and has created a 50Billion dollar industry to provide tools and consulting.
Even before “Big Data” Purchasing groups were swimming in data and struggled to put it to effective use. The success of Strategic Sourcing methodology had the effect of also identifying and standardizing the types and format of information that can be used to drive improvement.
This discussion will connect how big data sources and methodology can be used to develop specific and relevant spend analytics. Also presented will be an illustration of how you can use data and tools you already have - to get immediate results and make you better prepared to evaluate the need for more powerful analytic tools.
Finally will conclude with comments on how Big Data along with other disruptive digital trends will create a new required skill sets for Purchasing and Supply Chain Professionals and are transform how operate all ready.

Healthcare institutions are aggressively moving towards meeting compliance with MU1 and MU2 with the implementation of full-featured Electronic Health Records. Concomitantly, there will be a massive increase in the amount of clinical data captured electronically. Business intelligence (BI) which traditionally has focused on financial data can be leveraged to use clinical data to support providers in delivering high quality, efficient care. In addition, BI coupled with population health analytics can help meet many Accountable Care Organization needs. This presentation will discuss the Denver Health journey in using BI in a variety of was to facilitate the attainment of high quality care.
Our mission is: transforming data to reveal business and clinical insights. We accomplish this through our data management, business intelligence and analytics consulting services. We ensure that organizations have the proper tools, technology and processes to improve performance – relative to predefined critical success factors and key performance indicators – based on greater insight and analysis through analytics. We offer a framework for establishing an Analytics Center of Excellence within organizations to define roles and responsibilities and coordinate activities and tasks among key stakeholders. With emphasis on statistical analysis, forecasting, optimization, and simulation, analytics provides results that are predictive and prescriptive, injecting clarity and confidence in decision making and improving performance through situational awareness at all levels of the organization.
Through our past consulting engagements, we observed significant challenges and short-comings in how these organizations navigate such a data-rich environment in the pursuit of analytical excellence. Based on our assessment and evaluation, we develop a roadmap for establishing an information environment that enables stakeholders to improve clinical decision-making and performance (as related to quality, outcomes, cost and utilization) through data visualizations and advanced analytics. This roadmap accounts for both structured and unstructured data, and it includes provisions for controlled data access based on security and privacy policies. We manage the transition from on-premise to cloud-based data sources and leverage the cloud as an aggregation point for creating a Big Data analytics platform. We then perform an alternatives analysis of feasible solutions based on several factors, including: delivered capabilities, ease of implementation, performance, scalability, interoperability and integration with legacy systems, and functionality -- at a cost that maximizes ROI.

New Drug Discovery and Development .....NEHA GUPTA
The "New Drug Discovery and Development" process involves the identification, design, testing, and manufacturing of novel pharmaceutical compounds with the aim of introducing new and improved treatments for various medical conditions. This comprehensive endeavor encompasses various stages, including target identification, preclinical studies, clinical trials, regulatory approval, and post-market surveillance. It involves multidisciplinary collaboration among scientists, researchers, clinicians, regulatory experts, and pharmaceutical companies to bring innovative therapies to market and address unmet medical needs.
Acute scrotum is a general term referring to an emergency condition affecting the contents or the wall of the scrotum.
There are a number of conditions that present acutely, predominantly with pain and/or swelling
A careful and detailed history and examination, and in some cases, investigations allow differentiation between these diagnoses. A prompt diagnosis is essential as the patient may require urgent surgical intervention
Testicular torsion refers to twisting of the spermatic cord, causing ischaemia of the testicle.
Testicular torsion results from inadequate fixation of the testis to the tunica vaginalis producing ischemia from reduced arterial inflow and venous outflow obstruction.
The prevalence of testicular torsion in adult patients hospitalized with acute scrotal pain is approximately 25 to 50 percent
New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!
