Relationship Building Remember: This course has major project assignments that will be due in weeks 3 and 5. It will take more than a week’s effort to adequately complete them. Plan time to start the research and other work for those assignments earlier than the week in which they are due. Although relationship-building is relevant to either domestic or international negotiation, it takes on increased importance in many multi-cultural negotiations due to how various cultures assess the importance of relationship to the negotiation process. For this assignment, you will be researching and evaluating relationship-building in international negotiation. For the first part of your paper, provide two researched definitions of negotiation and evaluate whether relationship-building is a substantive part of the definitions. Include a possible edit of a negotiation definition to enhance the place of relationship-building. Defend your edits with research. Next, assess some of the social and economic consequences for failing to concentrate on relationship-building while negotiating with someone (individual, delegation, or country) that perceives relationship to be an important part of the process. Your assessment in this section should apply to both a negotiation event as well as larger leadership activities. Next, analyze some of the important indicators to being culturally sensitive to relationship needs or concerns (and other needs and concerns as might be appropriate) in a negotiation. What would be seen? What would be heard? Finally, defend three best practices or recommendations for leaders to enhance relationship building in international negotiation and global leadership activities. Hi everyone! You've now completed three weeks of NR631 (assuming that your literature review is done), and you are ready to move forward to week 4. I'll be grading your TD participation hopefully on Monday and then I'll work on your literature review assignments starting on Tuesday. This is a more extensive assignment and I have assignments due in other courses so it might take me a little longer to get your lit reviews back. I'm anticipating some excellent literature review on your great CGE topics 😎. Let's take a look at what lies ahead in week 4...
Introduction
In week 4, the lesson title is "Communication in Project Management" and we'll be addressing the following course outcomes:
CO #1: Apply leadership skills of project management as a nurse executive in an organizational setting to develop, implement, and evaluate successful project plans (PO 4,5)
CO #3: Exemplify professional values and scholarship that support the role of a student in a practicum setting (PO 4) (this is in reference to your time at your practicum site and you'll see this each week)
CO #5: Apply professional values characteristic of the competent and caring nurse executive that promotes holistic care principles and an appreciation of cultural humility (PO 1,3,4)
I encourage you to keep these course outcomes in mind while you read your text, articles, and lessons, as you participate in TDs, as you participate in practicum hours, and as you complete assignments.
Reading:
Your week 4 reading consists of three articles from peer reviewed journals. Two would be considered "scholarly" by Chamberlain definition as they are within five years old. The Culo article is from 2010 but it's a very good article so I decided to keep it. Please be sure to read these articles prior to constructing your initial TD post.
Lesson:
This week's lesson is about communication and building a communication plan. One point the lesson brings out is that, like most of the templates we are using, many organizations have their own formats or templates. I encourage you to reach out to the PM professionals in your organization and ask about this and compare our template to what you use in your organization. If your organization doesn't use a communication plan, it may be something you can suggest as a value added step.

I would like to request the finance department to present to me the projected cost for the incoming year by 26th June 2017. It has always been a pleasure to receive the budget for the whole year earlier enough and this time I expect nothing less but an excellent presentation. However, due to many hiccups that usually emerge in the course of the year, I would appreciate if this time the budget is broken down on a quarterly basis. I prefer this way as it will help us minimize the risk and ballooning of unexpected cost. The costs must be presented in our normal PowerPoint format, and it should be consistent with general accepted accounting principle (GAAP).
Due to the many projects that the company has this time around, the budget presented should try and minimize the administrative expense to avoid a scenario where the company operates with borrowed cash. The payroll, accounting, and auditing fee must be minimized so that it is used elsewhere. There are also many uncertainties that we expect this time as a result of the real estate market. As a result, this has put us in a position where we cannot make critical decisions at this time. However, this should not prevent us from to speculating and coming up with reasonable figures that can be used as assumed values.
As a way of trying to reduce the recurrent expenditure and increase the investment capital, the company expects something different from the previous budget. The repair and maintenance cost, as well as the utility cost, must be minimized as possible. Capital consideration in budgeting is very imperative as you all know and I expect our business analysts to use two methods of analysis namely qualitative and quantitative method. These are helpful in forecasting the financial projection or growth. For instance, the quantitative methods usually use the expert factor and at some point the human element in budget analysis. The approach is normally based on data and avoids the guesses and perception of people. It will help us in predicting the variables like insurance expenses and contract expenses product, the prices and other things. Some of the quantitative methods include payback, net present value and the average rate of return.
However, from my knowledge and experience, some benefits of capital investment cannot be assessed in monetary values. This is one of the most important parts of this course – I want you to work with your group to design a follow-up study using the topic Social Loafing. Your instructor will present the ideas to the whole class, and you will vote on which one you would like to do for your final class project. As you work on this discussion, try to think about what other variables might influence Loafing. Let me give you a few examples, though try to get creative with your group. Look at prior research and see if you can use some of their work as a follow-up to your study. Have fun with it!
Okay, consider some ideas I was thinking about for a follow-up study (Personally, I would recommend the third or fourth idea, as there is a lot of research you could draw on these new independent variables, which would make Paper III much easier to write). Keep in mind that we will drop one condition from our original Study One independent variable. I suggest keeping the Individual Total and Group Average conditions and dropping the Group Total condition. I have no solid reasoning behind this other than the Group Total and Group Average conditions probably will not differ much in study one, so including both is not necessary. I think keeping the Group Average condition will be easier to use with our new study design for some of the ideas below, but we could retain the Group Total if you have a good reason for doing so!
A fourth idea, and one I think is interesting, is to give participants an anchor. That is, we tell them how many math problems most people solve, with this number varying for the High Anchor condition (where we tell them most people solve 25 problems) and the Low Anchor condition (where we tell them most people solve 12 problems). Participants should attempt to solve more problems in the High Anchor condition than the Low Anchor condition, though participants with a High Anchor in the Individual Total condition should probably solve the most (with those in the Low Anchor and Group Average solving the least). The interesting part here is the High Anchor and Group Average condition. Since we look at the group score, loafing might occur, but the high anchor might disrupt their likelihood to loaf. In other words, this might be an interesting way to see if we can get rid of social loafing if we set a high anchor.
Finally, you can look at some participant characteristics if you like. You can measure the participants’ own ratings of how good they are or how much they enjoy math problems. Those who like math problems may be less likely to loaf (since loafing is less likely when people enjoy the activity). Or we could also look at participant gender. Research suggests that women are less likely to load than men. Would this same pattern hold in our study? I would like to request the finance department to present to me the projected cost for the incoming year by 26th June 2017. It has always been a pleasure to receive the budget for the whole year earlier enough and this time I expect nothing less but an excellent presentation. However, due to many hiccups that usually emerge in the course of the year, I would appreciate if this time the budget is broken down on a quarterly basis. I prefer this way as it will help us minimize the risk and ballooning of unexpected cost. The costs must be presented in our normal PowerPoint format, and it should be consistent with general accepted accounting principle (GAAP).
Due to the many projects that the company has this time around, the budget presented should try and minimize the administrative expense to avoid a scenario where the company operates with borrowed cash. The payroll, accounting, and auditing fee must be minimized so that it is used elsewhere. There are also many uncertainties that we expect this time as a result of the real estate market. As a result, this has put us in a position where we cannot make critical decisions at this time. However, this should not prevent us from to speculating and coming up with reasonable figures that can be used as assumed values.
As a way of trying to reduce the recurrent expenditure and increase the investment capital, the company expects something different from the previous budget. The repair and maintenance cost, as well as the utility cost, must be minimized as possible. Capital consideration in budgeting is very imperative as you all know and I expect our business analysts to use two methods of analysis namely qualitative and quantitative method. These are helpful in forecasting the financial projection or growth. For instance, the quantitative methods usually use the expert factor and at some point the human element in budget analysis. The approach is normally based on data and avoids the guesses and perception of people. It will help us in predicting the variables like insurance expenses and contract expenses product, the prices and other things. Some of the quantitative methods include payback, net present value and the average rate of return.

This is one of the most important parts of this course – I want you to work with your group to design a follow-up study using the topic Social Loafing. Your instructor will present the ideas to the whole class, and you will vote on which one you would like to do for your final class project. As you work on this discussion, try to think about what other variables might influence Loafing. Let me give you a few examples, though try to get creative with your group. Look at prior research and see if you can use some of their work as a follow-up to your study. Have fun with it!
Okay, consider some ideas I was thinking about for a follow-up study (Personally, I would recommend the third or fourth idea, as there is a lot of research you could draw on these new independent variables, which would make Paper III much easier to write). Keep in mind that we will drop one condition from our original Study One independent variable. I suggest keeping the Individual Total and Group Average conditions and dropping the Group Total condition. I have no solid reasoning behind this other than the Group Total and Group Average conditions probably will not differ much in study one, so including both is not necessary. I think keeping the Group Average condition will be easier to use with our new study design for some of the ideas below, but we could retain the Group Total if you have a good reason for doing so!
A fourth idea, and one I think is interesting, is to give participants an anchor. That is, we tell them how many math problems most people solve, with this number varying for the High Anchor condition (where we tell them most people solve 25 problems) and the Low Anchor condition (where we tell them most people solve 12 problems). Participants should attempt to solve more problems in the High Anchor condition than the Low Anchor condition, though participants with a High Anchor in the Individual Total condition should probably solve the most (with those in the Low Anchor and Group Average solving the least). The interesting part here is the High Anchor and Group Average condition. Since we look at the group score, loafing might occur, but the high anchor might disrupt their likelihood to loaf. In other words, this might be an interesting way to see if we can get rid of social loafing if we set a high anchor.
Finally, you can look at some participant characteristics if you like. You can measure the participants’ own ratings of how good they are or how much they enjoy math problems. Those who like math problems may be less likely to loaf (since loafing is less likely when people enjoy the activity). Or we could also look at participant gender. Research suggests that women are less likely to load than men. Would this same pattern hold in our study? Overview
LOCLBus Ltd are a bus operator in the East of England, in the UK. With a fleet size of 60 vehicles, ranging from large minibuses to 60 seater vehicles, they are a well known independent operator in the region, second only to the main contractor, First Group who operate the main local authority contracts in the region.
In response to demand from customers and the local authorities who contract LOCLBus to operate key services on their behalf, the management team have decided at a recent board meeting to stop accepting cash payments on all services where customers pay the driver (so not, for instance on school services) and replace cash with card payments and, they hope an App for mobile devices. The board realise this is a huge change for them, as since their inauguration in 1972, the only way they have accepted payment is via cash and it totals £2.7m per year, around 40% of their revenue (the rest being from local authority payments and other commercial contracts).
You have been recruited, due to your experience in commercial vehicles, to project manage this process, from fact finding to roll out of the

Black soldiers serving in the Philippines to put down the insurgency against the United States sent letters to African American newspapers relating their experiences on the islands. Plan time to start the research and other work for those assignments earlier than the week in which they are due. Although relationship-building is relevant to either domestic or international negotiation, it takes on increased importance in many multi-cultural negotiations due to how various cultures assess the importance of relationship to the negotiation process. For this assignment, you will be researching and evaluating relationship-building in international negotiation. For the first part of your paper, provide two researched definitions of negotiation and evaluate whether relationship-building is a substantive part of the definitions. Include a possible edit of a negotiation definition to enhance the place of relationship-building. Defend your edits with research. Next, assess some of the social and economic consequences for failing
- 2. to concentrate on relationship-building while negotiating with someone (individual, delegation, or country) that perceives relationship to be an important part of the process. Your assessment in this section should apply to both a negotiation event as well as larger leadership activities.
