3. INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 related
targets have been resolved in September 2015 by the UN General
Assembly including India.
Niti Aayog has been assigned the role of overseeing
implementation of SDGs by various Ministries/Departments.
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is evolving
indicators related to the 17 SDGs and 169 targets.
A Working Group on SDGs comprising of representatives from
NITI Aayog and Ministry of Statistics & Programme
Implementation has been constituted.
4. Progress Made
A draft mapping of goals and targets in respect of the central
ministries, various flagship initiatives of the government and the
Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) has been carried out to
facilitate better awareness and faster implementation of SGDs.
Many States have also mapped Sustainable Development Goals and
Targets.
A series of consultations/national workshops with stakeholder
Ministries/Departments and State Governments, Civil Society
Organizations, researchers, academia, UN agencies, policy makers,
private sector, non-government organizations etc. are being
organised.

Swachh Bharat Mission by 2019 (Clean India Mission)
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY) (National Livelihood
Mission)

9. Challenges & Way forward
Finance: Strengthen domestic resource mobilization
including international support.
Technology: Need for greater cooperation for global
innovative technology transfer and best practices sharing.
Capacity Building: Need to enhance international support
for implementing effective and targeted capacity-building.
Data and monitoring: Need to modernize statistical
system to produce high quality, timely, reliable and
disaggregated data for appropriate policy and
administrative interventions.
