 The region used to be named Central
Mindanao. Prior to the creation of the
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
(ARMM)
it comprised the following provinces:
 Maguindanao
 North Cotabato
 Sultan Kudarat
 Lanao del Norte
 Lanao del Sur
With the creation of ARMM, Lanao del Sur
(excluding Marawi) and Maguindanao
(excluding Cotabato City) were removed
from the region, leaving Lanao del Norte,
Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, and Marawi
and Cotabato City as constituent provinces
and cities. Lanao del Norte was later
transferred to Northern Mindanao, while
Marawi became part of the ARMM.
 On September 2001, Executive Order No. 36
was signed by President Gloria Macapagal-
Arroyo transferring South Cotabato, Sarangani,
General Santos (also known as the
SocSarGen District), and Koronadal from
Southern Mindanao to Region XII, and
renaming the region, from Central Mindanao,
to SOCCSKSARGEN
 Region XII is now composed of the provinces
of Sultan Kudarat, Saranggani, South Cotabato
and Cotabato Province and the cities of
General Santos, Cotabato, Kidapawan,
Koronadal, and Tacurong.

SOUTH COTABATO The province is known as “Simply
Beyond Expectations”
• Home province of the T'boli tribe,
who are known for their colorful
costumes, intricate beadwork,
woven baskets, and traditional
brass ornaments.
• Located in the southern part of the
island of Mindanao.
• Latitude of about 6°15′ north and
about 125° longitude.
• Place is generally flat dotted with
some hills and mountains.
• Total land area of about 3,706
square kilometers
• Province Capital : Koronadal City
• Biggest municipality is Lake Sebu
and smallest municipalities are
Tantangan and Sto. Nino.
• 2 district.
COTABATO Cotabato/North Cotobato
derives its name from
the Maguindanao kuta wato,
meaning "stone fort", referring to
the stone fort which served as the
seat of the great Sultan Kudarat in
what is now Cotabato City. Also
known as “Fruit Basket of
Mindanao”.
• Located in the central part of
Mindanao
• Land Area 17, 599 Hectares or
176 square kilometers.
• Capital is Kidapawan City
• Population: 271,786
• 1 District
• 37 barangays
SULTAN KUDARAT The name given to the province
was derived from a Muslim
ruler, the late Sultan
Muhammad Dipatuan
Kudarat who begun to assert
his leadership in the year 1619.

“Emerging to be Tiger
Economy in Region XII”

SARANGANI It was named by Villalobos as
Antonia, in honor of Antonio de
Mendoza y Pacheco, the Viceroy
of New Spain who commissioned
Villalobos expedition to the
Philippines. The early
inhabitants who first inhabited
Sarangani were
the indigenous natives, called
"MunaTo," a native term for "first
people. It is also known as “Pure
Adventure”

General Santos General Santos City is a blend of eco-
cultural explorations and modern day
trills. Also known as “Tuna Capital

wealthiest city in Mindanao. The
B'laan people are the original settlers
of GenSan which they called
Dadiangas during the time.

B’LAAN TRIBE
The B’laans have
preserved their
sacred lands,

Bantay, and Macao.
T’BOLI TRIBE
T’boli have their
own story of
creation; they
believed that the
world they lived,
the trees, the
rivers, lakes and
mountains has its
own powerful being
the Dwata/Mulu
(God).
TEDURAY TRIBE
Teduray people believe
in katya (short prayer,
orasyon), murka (gaba),
endagiton (spirits/soul)
and supernatural
powers. Teduray
believed in the existence
of kuwek, busaw, fagad
(kapre), and alagasi
(higante). Their farming,
planting and harvest
season is also affected
by the formation of the
stars.
MANOBO TRIBE
Manobo are gifted
and nature loving
people endowed with
talents and strength
to make life not just a
living. They are
remnants of the
people living during
the age of “survival of
the fittest” when
Mindanao was once a
vast track of virgin
forest.
MAGUINDANAO TRIBE
Long before the arrival of Shariff
Kabunsuan (1475) and the
discovery of the Philippines by
Magellan (1521), there were
people already living near the
mouth of Pulangi or
maguindanaon River and in the
plains along its upper the
tributaries in what is now Datu
Piang. In those days until now,
the Mindanao river overflows its
bank from time to time, flooding
the areas along its bank up to
its mouth. These floodings are
termed “midsanao” by the
Maguindanaons.

  • 4.  The region used to be named Central Mindanao. Prior to the creation of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) it comprised the following provinces:  Maguindanao  North Cotabato  Sultan Kudarat  Lanao del Norte  Lanao del Sur
  • 5. With the creation of ARMM, Lanao del Sur (excluding Marawi) and Maguindanao (excluding Cotabato City) were removed from the region, leaving Lanao del Norte, Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, and Marawi and Cotabato City as constituent provinces and cities. Lanao del Norte was later transferred to Northern Mindanao, while Marawi became part of the ARMM.
  • 6.  On September 2001, Executive Order No. 36 was signed by President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo transferring South Cotabato, Sarangani, General Santos (also known as the SocSarGen District), and Koronadal from Southern Mindanao to Region XII, and renaming the region, from Central Mindanao, to SOCCSKSARGEN  Region XII is now composed of the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, Saranggani, South Cotabato and Cotabato Province and the cities of General Santos, Cotabato, Kidapawan, Koronadal, and Tacurong.

  • 20. B’LAAN TRIBE The B’laans have preserved their sacred lands, keeping them connected to the mother earth, to their sacred sites in Lamifew, Malandag, Malungon Sarangani: Melai Bolul, Moleng, Bantay, and Macao.
  • 21. T’BOLI TRIBE T’boli have their own story of creation; they believed that the world they lived, the trees, the rivers, lakes and mountains has its own powerful being the Dwata/Mulu (God).
  • 22. TEDURAY TRIBE Teduray people believe in katya (short prayer, orasyon), murka (gaba), endagiton (spirits/soul) and supernatural powers. Teduray believed in the existence of kuwek, busaw, fagad (kapre), and alagasi (higante). Their farming, planting and harvest season is also affected by the formation of the stars.
  • 23. MANOBO TRIBE Manobo are gifted and nature loving people endowed with talents and strength to make life not just a living. They are remnants of the people living during the age of “survival of the fittest” when Mindanao was once a vast track of virgin forest.

MAGUINDANAO TRIBE Long before the arrival of Shariff Kabunsuan (1475) and the discovery of the Philippines by Magellan (1521), there were people already living near the mouth of Pulangi or maguindanaon River and in the plains along its upper the tributaries in what is now Datu Piang. In those days until now, the Mindanao river overflows its bank from time to time, flooding the areas along its bank up to its mouth. These floodings are termed “midsanao” by the Maguindanaons.
