is a region of the Philippines, located in
central Mindanao, and is officially
designated as Region XII.
The name is an acronym that stands for
the region's four provinces and one of its
cities: SouthCotabato, Cotabato, Sultan
Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos.

The region is more formally known by its older name
Central Mindanao. The regional center is Koronadal
City located in the province of South Cotabato.
The region used to be named Kudaan. Prior to the
creation of the Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao, these provinces comprised the region:

Cotabato
Sultan Kudarat
7. Geography
Region XII has extensive coastlines,
valleys and mountain ranges. Known for
its river system, the region is the catch
basin of Mindanao.

It was named by Villalobos as Antonia.
The early inhabitants who first inhabited
Sarangani were the indigenous natives,
called "MunaTo," a native term for "first
people."
16. Sarangani
is a province of the Philippines located in
the SOCCSKSARGEN region.
Its capital is Alabel.
With a 230 kilometres (140 mi) coastline
along the Sarangani Bay and Celebes
Sea, the province is at the southernmost
tip of Mindanao Island, and borders South
Cotabato and Davao del Sur to the north,
and Davao Occidental to the east.

It has seven municipalities (Alabel,
Malapatan, Glan, Malungon, Maasim,
Kiamba, and Maitum) with 140 barangays.
Alabel, the provincial capital, is only 16
kilometers from General Santos City.
With the province’s strategic geographical
location, it has great potential of becoming
an industrial zone in Region 12.
19. Sarangani : Soil and Mineral
Soil types of the province range from loam,
sandy loam, fine sandy loam, silty
clay loam, clay loam, and
mountain clay soil.
The province has also rich deposits of precious
metallic and non-metallic minerals such as
gold, copper, iron, silica,
limestone, cement lime, coal,
marble, gypsum, phosphate rock,
sandstone, white pebbles and
guano.
20. Sarangani : Climate
Northeast monsoon and southwest
monsoon are the prevailing wind
directions of Sarangani Province. These
are respectively from the months of
November to March and June to October.
Weather is mild and pleasant and free
from typhoons.
There is no distinct dry and wet
season in the area
21. Sarangani : Livelihood
The province's agri and fishery based enterprises
maintain banana plantations; cattle ranches; bangus,
hito, tilapia, tiger prawn fishponds; mariculture; and salt
farms. Livestock is just as viable.
With more than 7,000 hectares of mango plantation,
Sarangani is an emerging source in SOCSKSARGEN
aside from being a large producer of copra and
sugarcane.
Giant companies like DOLE Philippines have ventured
into banana, pineapple, and asparagus growing. Fishing
and aquaculture also sustain the local economy.
38. Sultan Kudarat
located on the southwestern part of the island of
Mindanao.
The name given to the province was derived from a
Muslim ruler, the late Sultan Muhammad
Dipatuan Kudarat who begun to assert his
leadership in the year 1619.
40. Sultan Kudarat
It is bounded on the north by the
provinces of Maguindanao and Cotabato;
on the south by South Cotabato and
Sarangani; on the east by Davao del Sur;
and on the west by the Celebes Sea.
The province's total land area is
529,834 hectares (1,309,250
acres).
41. Sultan Kudarat
• Sultan Kudarat is subdivided into 11
municipalities and 1 city. Three of the
municipalities (Kalamansig, Lebak, and
Palimbang) are coastal towns, while the
rest of the province is located inland. The
11 municipalities and Tacurong City are
further subdivided into 249 barangays.
42. Sultan Kudarat : Climate
The climate is characterized by a short
dry season lasting from one
to three months. Unlike most other
provinces in the country, Sultan Kudarat is
generally free from typhoons and
rainfall is more evenly
distributed throughout the
year.
43. Sultan Kudarat : Livelihood
• The economy of Sultan Kudarat is predominantly agricultural.
• Crops grown : rice, corn, beef, coffee, and vegetables.
• The province is self-sufficient in poultry, swine, and root crops, and
is one of the few producers of Irish potatoes in the Philippines.
• The southern Philippines Grain Complex in Tacurong is the largest
grains-processing complex in the country. There are more than 200
rice mills in the province.
• Fishing is an expanding industry. Tuna caught along the coasts
along the Celebes Sea are exported to Japan and Europe.
• Other economic activities include cottage industries, which include
crafts made of rattan and other types of wood.
44. Sultan Kudarat : Resources
Metallic minerals are found mostly in the
mountainous areas of Isulan, Basgumbayan,
Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Palimbang and Columbio.
These minerals are copper, gold, chromium,
zinc and silver.
Non-metallic minerals found in the province
include clay, sulfur, limestone, phosphate, sand
and gravel, marbleized stone.
