3. SOCCSKSARGEN
• It is a region of the Philippines , located in Central
Mindanao and is officially designated as Region XII.
• The name is an acronym that stands for the region’s
four provinces and one of its cities:
• South Cotabato , Cotabato , Sultan Kudarat ,
Sarangani and General Santos.

• The region has five (5) Cities ,namely:
1. Kidapawan City
2. Cotabato City
3. General Santos
4. Koronadal City
5. Tacurong City
6. HISTORY
• The region is more formally known by its older name
Central Mindanao. The regional center is Koronadal City
located in the province of South Cotabato.
• The region used to be named Kudaan. Prior to the creation
of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
(ARMM) , these provinces comprised the region :
-Maguindanao
-Cotabato
-Sultan Kudarat
7. GEOGRAPHY
• Region XII has extensive coastlines, valleys and mountain ranges.
Known for its river system
• The region is the “catch basin of Mindanao.”
• The system is rich source of food, potable water and energy production.
• Cotabato contains the Rio Grande De Mindanao which is the longest
river in Mindanao and the 2nd longest in the Philippines.
• With the addition of South Cotabato and Sarangani or the (SocSarGen
Province), transferred from Southern Mindanao, the Region was renamed
as SOCCSKARGEN.
• The “Central Mindanao” name lives on as a description to the provinces
populated by 65% Christians and 30% Muslims and 5% other Filipinos.

Known for their colorful costumes, intricate
Beadwork, woven baskets and traditional
Brass ornaments.

9. COTABATO COTABATO/ North Cotabato
Derives its name from the Maguindanao
Kuta wato, meaning “stone fort” ,
referring to the stone fort which served as
the seat of the great Sultan Kudarat in what
is now Cotabato City. Also known as
“ Fruit Basket of Mindanao”.
• Located in the central part of Mindanao.
• Capital is Kidapawan City.
10. SULTAN KUDARAT The name given to the province was derived from
A Muslim ruler, the late Sultan Muhammad
Dipatuan Kudarat who begun to assert his leader-
Ship in the year 1619.
• The province is also known as
“Emerging to be Tiger Economy in Region XII”
• Capital: Isulan
11. SARANGANI
• It is also known as “Pure Adventure”
• It was named by Villalobos as Antonia,
in honor of
Antonio de Mendoza y Pacheco, the Viceroy of
New Spain who commissioned Villalobos
Expedition to the Philippines.
• The early inhabitants who first inhabited
Sarangani were the indigeneous natives
called “MunaTo”, a native term for “first
people”
• Capital : Alabel
12. GENERAL SANTOS General Santos City
• Also known as “Tuna Capital of
the Philippines.”
• The B’laan people are the original
settlers of Gensan which they called
Dadiangas during the time.
• Lies southern part of the Philippines
36. The peaceful life of Mindanao was disturbed by four monsters. The first
monster is Kurita, a terrible creature with many limbs. Second, Tarabusaw, a
monster who has a face of a man and lives in Mt. Matutum. Third, Pah an
enormous bird who lives in Mt. Bita. And lastly, a dreadful bird with seven heads
and lives in Mt. Kurayan. All of this creature causes destruction and killed
many people in the land of Mindanao. King Indarapatra heard the death and
destruction caused by the terrible creatures. And calls his brother Sulayman,
asks for his help to rescue the villagers and gave him a ring and sword
to use as a weapon for his battle. He also hung a plants near his window
to symbolize the success and safety of the prince.
Prince Sulayman agreed to his brother. He travelled and searched for the four
terrible creature. The prince slayed the two monster Kurita and Tarabusaw.
.After the successful fight with the two monsters, Prince Sulayman flew to
Mt. Kurayan to look for Pah. Not long after, Pah appeared and the prince
jumped out and cut off the wing of Pah, and accidentally the wing fall on him.
and his body was buried alive. King Indarapatra received the news about
the sudden death of his brother and he travelled to the place where his brother
was buried . The Bathala felt pity towards King Indarapatra; gave him a
miraculous water and poured the water on to him, and miracle happened!
37. Prince Sulayman quickly brought back to life and they both hugged each other in
gladness.
King Indarapatra sent his brother back to the Kingdom while he decided to go to
Mt. Kurayan to search for dreadful bird with sharp nails and they fought fearlessly
and won the battle. And a beautiful fairy appeared and congratulated him,
King Indarapatra mesmerized by the fairy’s beauty.
And they fell in love with each other and got married.
Then a wide beautiful land appeared and King Indarapatra did
not return to his kingdom, instead, he decided to live in the village where his beautiful
fairy lives.
