2. Personal Reflection
Before going into my reflective essay, it is important to first know what is reflective learning and
journal writing. Reflective learning is the system of internally analysing and exploring a problem
of concern, triggered by an experience, which creates and clarifies meaning in terms of self, and
which ends up in a modified conceptual angle (Boyd and Fales, 1983). Journal writing on the
other hand, is the recording of each day events, personal reflections, questions about the
environment, and reactions to experiences (Dyment and O'Connell, 2003). According to Kerka

the learners to "articulate connections between new information and what they already
recognise". Reflection is an important human activity in which people recapture their experience,
think about it, mull it over and evaluate it. It is this working with experience that is important in
gaining knowledge of (Boud, Keogh and Walker, 1985). To help structure my writing, I will be
using the Gibbs (1988) model of reflection. This model supports "reflection on action", allowing
me to think retrospectively and systematically analyse each phase of the experience. Throughout
the last 20 weeks, there are many things that I have taken into consideration from the lessons
taught by David and Christina. However, I will only highlight on the classes that impacted me the

University Lakeside Campus students from Malaysia are given a completely different task as
compared to the rest of the students for one of the assessment. Taylors students are expected to film
a video to attract other students studying in Malaysia to continue their studies at UWE and why
they should choose Bristol and UWE. At that time, David and Christina are unable to confirm the
assessment criteria as the criteria may be different this year for the Taylors students. However, I was
really excited because I
