1. REFLECTION ON THE CULTURAL APROACH
The intercultural Project was an excellent opportunity for our students not only
to show our culture to a person who is not form Argentina but also to know about a
different culture. It was a nice experience where all of them were engaged in the class
and willing to participate since it was a different lesson.
At the beginning of the lesson the students passed to the board in groups of
five to show Jasmine different posters that they had created in previous classes. The
posters contained information about different families living in Argentina; some of
them were aboriginal such as “Mapuches” or “Coyas” whereas others were immigrant,
for example “Chinese”, “Mennonites” and “Gyspy”. The pupils showed Jasmine how
those families dressed, what food they eat, what are their flags and the regional
geographic where they live.
After listening to the students, Jasmine presented them a power point
presentation where she showed different pictures that represent herself and her
culture such as her University, favourite food, music and films and her family. The
students were surprised since there are several aspects of our culture that we do not
share with her. For this reason, they were very engaged on knowing everything about
the other culture and they asked Jasmine a lot of questions. Then, it started a debate
where the pupils asked her questions about information that was not present on the
power point presentation, and at the same time they told her different things about
themselves, for example their favourite football team, music and films.
At the end of the lesson, all the students farewell Jasmine and thanked her for
coming and telling them about her culture. It was a very good experience not only for
the pupils who enjoyed the visit of someone who does not belong to our culture, but
also for us, as teacher, because we could learn a lot about how to give a different class.
