By: Brian Birdow

Christ is our example
★ 1 Peter 2:21-25
★ Jesus Christ
was a man of
prayer!
Jesus prayed!
• Jesus was consistent and persistent in
prayer
• Luke 6:12-13 In these days He went out to the
mountain to pray, and all night He continued in
prayer to God. 13 And when day came, He called
His disciples and chose from them twelve, whom
He named apostles:
Jesus prayed!
• Matthew 14:23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, He
went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.
• Mark 1:35 In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got
up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was
praying there.
• Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when
Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens
were opened,
• Luke 5:16 But He would withdraw to desolate places and pray.
Jesus prayed!
• Luke 9:18 And it happened that while He was praying alone,
the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying,
“Who do the people say that I am?”
• Luke 11:1 And it happened that while He was praying alone, the
disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who
do the people say that I am?”
• Matthew 14:19 Ordering the people to sit down on the grass,
He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward
heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave
them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the
crowds,
Pray Consistently &
Persistently
• Ephesians 6:18-20 praying at all times in the Spirit, with
all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with
all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in
opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the
gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I
may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
• When we fail to pray consistently and persistently we
give an opportunity for the devil! (Ref. Ephesians 4:27,
6:11)
Pray Consistently &
Persistently
• Because there is joy in prayer!
• John 16:24 Until now you have asked for nothing in
My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy
may be made full.
• Psalm 16:11 You will make known to me the path of
life;In Your presence is fullness of joy;In Your right
hand there are pleasures forever.
• If we lack joy in our lives it could be because our prayer
life is lacking!
Pray Consistently &
Persistently
• Because worry will be dispelled!
• Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your requests be made known to God. And the peace of
God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
• Instead of worrying give it over to God who cares for us!
(Reference: Matthew 11:28-30)
Prayer & Submission
• Jesus Christ was submissive in prayer
• Hebrews 5:7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both
prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the
One able to save Him from death, and He was heard
because of His piety (reveren ce).
• Luke 22:41-43 And he withdrew from them about a
stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying,
“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me.
Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there
appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.
Prayer & Submission
• John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in
you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for
you.
• 1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we
have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to
his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears
us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the
requests that we have asked of Him.
Prayer for open doors
• Colossians 4:2-4
• Devote yourselves to prayer,
keeping alert in it with an
attitude of thanksgiving;
praying at the same time for us
as well, that God will open up
to us a door for the word, so
that we may speak forth the
mystery of Christ, for which I
have also been imprisoned;
that I may make it clear in the
way I ought to speak.
A prayer of faith
• Luke 22:31-32 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan
has demanded permission to sift you like
wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your
faith may not fail; and you, when once you
have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
• James 5:13-16 …turn with me please…
