The Center is conducting focus groups with families, reviewing policies, and interviewing pediatricians to understand challenges and recommend solutions in areas like language access, care coordination, and healthcare transitions. The findings will be shared at a stakeholder meeting and in a disseminated report.

This report describes the findings and recommendations of the qualitative study on the barriers and motivations to enrolling people living with HIV/AIDS in the Family Health Insurance plan in the Dominican Republic. The study was conducted with the goal of informing institutions in the Dominican Republic, such as the Standardized System of Beneficiaries (SIUBEN), the National Council for HIV and AIDS (CONAVIHSIDA), the National Health Insurance (SENASA), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) about the recommended strategies to increase the number of people living with HIV/AIDS enrolled in Family Health Insurance plan. Target populations such as men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender people, and sex workers, and other prioritized populations, such as migrants, were the main focus of the study in order to meet national and international commitments on HIV, aiming to increase access to antiretroviral treatment, as well as to generate the financial sustainability of the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS).
Initiatives for Elders of the Madawaska Maliseet First NationsDataNB
This study is part of a pan Canadian movement to find viable solutions for supporting aging in place. The Aboriginal population over the age of 65 has nearly doubled since 2006. Chronic diseases are more prevalent and recovery more difficult for Aboriginals compared to non-Aboriginals. Living in rural areas, limited access to family doctors and specialists, as well as social isolation are thought to be among the primary causes. Moreover, there are many barriers to aging in place, including a decreasing number of natural caregivers, and challenges related to finding community resources in their language of choice. The purpose of this project is to support Aboriginal elders who wish to live healthy and safely at home. The project offers initiatives aimed at providing care, transportation services and accompaniment during medical appointments. A mobile application, installed on a tablet distributed to study participants, serves as a communication tool between the Elder and the services that are offered as part of this project. This webinar presents how the project initiatives were put into practice in the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation community, and preliminary results (if available).

In Alameda, we have forged a county-district-CBO partnership to create a family “hub” or central family resource center in one district. We will share our approach, focusing on the innovative partnerships and financing strategies that have made it possible.
Many of our low-income community members have healthcare coverage through the State’s Medi-Cal program, but how can we help them use these benefits to get the care they need? Often times our families tell us they need help getting dental care or seeing a mental health professional. Other times our families tell us they have had a horrible experience and don’t want to return to the doctor. How do we respond to these experiences?
Healthcare coverage can be difficult to manage for anyone. Among our low-income California residents it’s even more difficult to manage as Medi-Cal coverage can be different for each household member. In this workshop we will be discussing healthcare coverage eligibility for all members of the family that may include immigrant household members. We will be reviewing the benefits available to adults, children, and undocumented family members and the rights people have to request timely, accessible, and quality care. Our session will provide guidance to SBHC staff who work with community members with multiple healthcare needs. The goal is to help attendees identify what types of concerns families are having and how to appropriately guide and refer them to the healthcare resources they need.
In addition, during this session participants will explore existing laws, such as The California Values Act (SB 54) and Safe Schools for Immigrant Students (AB 699) that have the potential to safeguard children and their parents from immigration enforcement. Participants will also get to hear about and engage in a conversation about public charge and the potential changes that can affect immigrant families and access to key services such as health care. Lastly, through the findings of a recent report called Healthy Mind, Healthy Future the group will discuss how immigration related policy changes impact the mental health of children in immigrant families and highlight the important role that schools have on ensuring children can overcome barriers and secure the support they need to thrive.

Abstract: The goal of the InFoLiS project is to connect research data and publications. Links between data and literature are created automatically by means of text mining and made available as Linked Open Data (LOD) for seamless integration into different retrieval systems. This enables scientists to directly access information about corresponding research data in a literature information system, and, vice versa, it is possible to directly find different interpretations and analyses in the literature of the same research data. In our talk, we will describe our methods for generating the links and give insight into the Linked Data infrastructure including the services we are currently building. Most importantly, we will detail how our solutions can be used by other institutions and invite all interested participants to discuss with us their ideas and thoughts on the requirements for these services to ensure broad interoperability with existing systems and infrastructures. InFoLiS is a joint project by the GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne, Mannheim University Library, and Mannheim University supported by a grant from the DFG – German Research Foundation.

In addition, tying payment to value can increase use of ambulatory and preventive services and encourage creative outreach. However, abrupt changes can interrupt continuity and reduce access to care.
