Redtacton uses the human body as a wireless network by inducing weak electric fields on the skin's surface. Data can be transmitted through clothing and shoes at speeds up to 10 Mbps. A transmitter induces the electric field on the skin, sensors detect the field and send it to a RED TACTON receiver where the signals are processed and data downloaded. The electric field dissipates into the earth from the human body. Japanese company NTT plans to launch a product that transmits data via the body, allowing users to access services and devices with a touch.
