Introduction
Human society is entering an era of omnipresent computing, when
networks are seamlessly interconnected & information is always
accessible in an easy way. These services requires 3 levels of
connectivity:
1.Wide Area Network (WAN)
2.Local Area Network (LAN)
3.Human Area Network (HAN)
NTT’s (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) RedTacton is
break-through technology that ,enables reliable high speed HAN.

Overview of RedTacton technology
RedTacton is a new innovative Human Area Networking technology that
turns the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network
transmission path.
What it means?
Red- a warm colour to emphasis warm &
cordial communication.
Tacton - Touch-act-on
Action triggered by touching.
Overview
RedTacton takes a different technical approach. RedTacton
uses weak electric fields on the surface of the body as a
transmission medium.
Using RedTacton, communication starts when terminals
carried by the user or embedded in devices are linked in
various combinations according to the user's natural, physical
movements.
A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of the
human body comes in contact with a RedTacton transceiver,
physically separating ends the contact and thus ends
communication.
Features
1. A communications path can be created with a simple touch.
2. Two-way communication is supported at a throughput of up to 10 Mbps.
3. Broadband and interactive.
4. Transmission speed does not deteriorate in congested area.
5. Programmable.
Working
The near-body electric-field communication
system described in this Special Feature
consists of
(1) a transmitter that emits an alternating
current (AC) electric-field signal modulated
by input data from an electrode and
(2) a receiver that uses another electrode
to read the weak AC electric field on the
body induced by the signal and
demodulates it to recover the data from it .
Working
Factors for stable communication
What does it need
Each device we wish to communicate with must be equipped with a RedTacton transceiver that is
able to detect the messages programmed into our own device.
Electro-optic sensor
The electro-optic sensor has three key features:
• It can measure electric fields from a device under test
(DUT) without contacting it, which minimizes measurement
disturbance.
• Ultra wide-band measurement is possible.
• It supports one-point contact measurement that is
independent of the ground, Which is the most significant
feature in the present context.
NTT utilized this third feature to fabricate an intrabody
communication receiver.
RedTacton relies upon the principle that
the optical properties of an electro-optic
crystal can vary according to the
changes of a weak electric field.
Broadband & interactive
Applications
Touch printer to print.
Instantaneous private data exchange.
Applications
User verification &lock
management at entrance
& also at conference
meeting.
Military Applications
One possible application is gun security.
A redtacton transreceiver can be implemented in the gun &
programmed to a transreceiver worn by a soldier so that only
the particular soldier could fire that weapon.
Medical Applications
Another possible application is in the medical field for a disease
such as diabetes.
If a way could be found to accurately monitor the blood sugar
and dispense the proper amount of insulin via a pump, it would
save money and be safer for the patient.
COMPARISON WITH OTHER NETWORKS
Advantages
 Faster & easier.
 Data loss during transfer is less.
 Security is more.
Disadvantages
 Too Costly
CONCLUSION
RedTacton is an exciting new technology for human
area networking. RedTacton technology is expected to
dominate Bluetooth technology in the future. RedTacton
technology could put the use of cables to an end.
This technology brings a new dimension of
communication which effectively links the user to anyone he
wants to communicate.
