RedTacton is a new human area networking technology that allows for high-speed data transmission of up to 10 Mbps by turning the surface of the human body into a transmission path. It was developed by NTT in Japan and uses photonic electric field sensors to overcome limitations of prior technologies that only achieved speeds of 40 bit/s over short ranges. RedTacton transmits data through the minute electric fields on the skin and enables communication through touch with devices like cards or receivers without direct contact or currents flowing into the body. Potential applications include touch advertising, intuitive device operations through touch, and security verification systems.
